It’s that weird time of year where, because of snowflake and such, I become super active again. So here’s a third post in 24 hours.

Yesterday was mostly good but there was also a bit of blehness. However before I get back to that, I’m gonna do a quick mini Who ramble.

So before Christmas I did a watch of Doctor Who Christmas eps and posted thoughts. I meant to do more (as I said I should’ve started it much sooner) but I didn’t do a post about the last one I watched causa timing. That one was The Next Doctor so I’m gonna do the ramble now despite it being well over a week late (and my mind being fuzzier as a result).

The ep has a few Christmas ep firsts. It’s the first not set on contemporary Earth (it’s still London though but in Victorian times) and it’s the first to feature returning enemies (in this case the cybermen). The one off companion is ‘the next doctor’ but of course it’s not. It’s an interesting concept to use, having a future Doctor appear before the regeneration but of course it turns out not to be what’s happening. It’s a bit of a shame that a good chunk of the ep is about that (including the title) which turns out to be a misdirection.

Instead the ep is about cybermen making use of a strong willed woman, stealing children to power up their Cyberking. I think more should’ve been spent on this side (though I liked that the ep was investigation focussed) and I wish we’d seen more of the cyber shades cause I like their design. As to the cyberking it’s an interesting idea but kinda… I dunno.

Like I said I’d probably have more to say if this was made closer to watching it, but as it is… (and I dunno if I’ll watch the other Christmas eps now Christmas is over but we’ll see)

So back to yesterday.

As my first of yesterdays posts said I did some Pokemon Violet, beating the Psychic gym (though I got odd vibes off the gym leader). Which is an accomplishment! I’m still a few behind (i think at least 3?) so I’m hoping to do more this week. I’m not sure what my next goal is gonna be (I might do lessons, or the last titan).

i went on Sonic Frontiers yesterday and completed the first island! The last boss was Giganto and fuck, he was both hard and annoying. I think it didn’t help that I’d not had much practice with parrying and this battle relied on it (so I was bad on it) but also the button mashing was odd and annoying (I’m not sure if switching to easy helped with that but I digest him). One thing though is that the boss fight music slapped, and it had Kellie Quinn from Sleeping With Sirens doing the vocals. It really was so epic and I don’t think I’d have done the fight so many times if it wasn’t got that. (I had to stop for His Dark Materials and then go back.) I did some of the second island, which has Knuckles (first island had Amy) which is nice.

One thing that annoyed me mid boss fight was something unrelated. Mum had, despite my objections, seen something on eBay that she wanted to keep an eye on (my objections were mostly due to the issues last time and promises she’d not look again). Before going on Sonic I saw the price of the thing, considered it too high and thought nothing of it.

Then under ten minutes before it finished (and while I was mid boss fight) mum wanted me to put in a bid. It took about two minutes of pushing to get a figure out of her and then when I went to bid last minute I found I couldn’t, because of the issues last time. So at some point I have to get in touch to get the restriction lifted. It was annoying and mum seemed ok with it at the time but I suspect she’s become grumpy which she is known to do.

Then there was the one off Taskmaster which was fun. I do like these one off eps, though sometimes it’s a shame not to see some of the people more. (Though this time I couldn’t place two of them.)

After that was the big fat Quiz of the year cause I missed it on Boxing Day. It was fun, and sweet when Maisie met the Lioness. And I did a squee when they got Subwoolfer on which was a surprise! But yee it’s always a fun watch.

The Twilight Zone started on Legend (formerly horror channel) yesterday so I checked and the ep was on the player so I watched it. It was pretty good though felt a bit lacking in the weirdness factor, though it was the first ep.

I ended the night reading a belated Christmas fic (yay!) and then reread some old ones I forgot about before going to sleep. (I ended up working on fic after reading the first one so might have that soonish… as opposed to ones I have written much of)

Today I watched a YouTube vid (Karl beating Minecraft in Antarctica, only ending up stripping) and I intend to try and watch at least one a day to catch up on the backlog of stuff. I might watch another later.

Sadly it seems the starburst magazine twitter has been hacked cause now it’s all crypto. I hope they sort it soon.

Todays plan is… I dunno. I know there’s Silent Witness later but other than that?

Today’s Who Christmas special was Voyage of the Damned. Voyage can be described pretty simply: it’s the Poseidon Adventure but in space!

The TARDIS is hit by the Titanic! Except it’s not the Titanic, instead it’s a a spaceship with the same name. (Which looks so cool!) Of course it being Who disaster soon strikes, with the Doctor trying to lead a group of survivors to safety (albeit unsuccessfully).

The one off companion this time is Astrid Peth (played by Kylie Minogue), who is so sweet and it’s a bit of a shame what happens to her. She would’ve been a nice companion, full of wonder even at a London street. (A street which is wisely deserted after the last two Christmas’s.)

Filling a villain role are the Heavenly Hosts, robots which bare a more than passing resemblance to the titular Robots Of Death. They look impressive and fill the part well, and I love the halo’s as weapons. Of course they weren’t serve the main villain, Max Capricorn who must surely be the most petty of villains in the whole series.

There’s fun in Mr Copper’s ‘descriptions’ of Christmas, which is laughably wrong. And I do love this type of ep (theres not enough eps set on spaceships like this). And the ep is the best of the three Christmas ones so far… despite not really being Christmassy.

It ended with a trailer (which the last one didn’t for some reason) of series 4 which has so many great eps. (Though it made me wanna watch them again too, which I guess is the problem with such trailers)

Yesterday we ended up going to the garden center, which ended up being a bit eh. It wasn’t helped that we stopped to look at the Christmas tree’s across the road from it, which would’ve been fine, but the dog they had there came loose and decided to attack Naryu which… wasn’t the best. She’s fine but it spooked her.

The garden center itself was ok. There wasn’t many animals (though there was a cute trio of Guinea pigs) and I almost got some cute little mushroom lights but didn’t.

Yesterday I’d hoped to do more when we came back but I got tired. And then later in the night my stomach felt woozy so I ended up going to bed earlier than I planned. I did watched Foolish get his ear pierced (damn he made such a fuss!) and saw Wilbur on Austin’s Flight. I don’t trust him to fly, but less than Tommy who on the previous one actively crashed the plane.

I’m curious what Wilbur’s new merch is going to be.

Today we waited in just in case there was a parcel. One was meant to be delivered yesterday while we were out so I thought they might try and bring it today. Alas no. After waiting and having noms tower went to the co-op to get some bits (mostly chicken for Naryu for Christmas).

Tonight’s plan is to snuggle, maybe fic, watch stuff and then… I dunno. Quackity is meant to be doing a driving stream with Foolish which I hope works (it was meant to be last night but there was issues) or maybe I’ll do the Quarry.

Today I continued the Who Christmas run with The Runaway Bride.

Bride starts something that becomes a tradition of Who Christmas eps: that Christmas eps have one off companions. This one features Donna, who goes on to return as a companion in season 4. She’s the titular bride, although it’s less runaway (which implies choice) more… I dunno.

It’s a bit of a sad ep, being right after Rose left and Donna is kinda abrasive at the start (understandably so, she was ‘abducted’ from her wedding and it just gets worse from there) though she does soften over the ep.

Unlike the last one the Doctor is in it a lot more which is great. Although at the end he does… almost go too far (which we see the result of if he had, surprisingly, a few seasons later)

The villain here is the racnoss, an ancient spider race(ugh, though the whole costume is impressive) though Lance is a much more human villain (what an utter fucking bastard he was)

Unanswered question of the ep: Where were the Torchwood employees running the facility? Was it all automated? Were the robots running it?

Other thing now.

Update on shed kitty. I wasn’t able to check the shed yesterday, but today I went down and they were there again (or there still?) I couldn’t see if they ate the food because the food pot was gone. I did take some more food back down, but they were nowhere to be seen (I still left it though)

Last night I did some more on The Quarry, doing chapter one. I did make the choice I’ve seen no one make and the result is different enough to make me wonder if it makes something else change too. I’m hoping to do more later.

Net has been flickers still, which is annoying. It’s likely due to the cold but still, it’s annoying.

I found out that the Magnus archives is getting a sequel, called The Magnus Protocol which is coming out next year. There was a kickstarter that I managed to get in (to do a small amount) but it’ll be coming out for free like archives was (starting next October).

I also did icons on the laptop this morning. Problem was I found out my mouse wasn’t working cause the… thing (receiver?) was somehow damaged. Ugh. I haven’t switched the icons round yet though

So today I started the Christmas ep rewatch of Doctor Who. It’s unlikely I’ll get beyond the 10th Doctor specials before the day (I should’ve started this before but didn’t think too). It’s been so long since I’ve watched any of them, so here is the thoughts on The Christmas Invasion

Tomorrow I’m hoping to watch The Runaway Bride, which I’ve also not seen for so long.

As mentioned in the last post, I’m doing snowflake so here’s the promo:

Yesterday I ended up being so drained so didn’t do The Quarry like I hoped. I did do some more Pokémon and did one of the gyms (yay!). Foolish did a stream though alas, his pretty hair is gone 😔 I took psychic damage from each cut so stopped watching but… ugh

The net has been flicky again lately which is so annoying.

I tried the m and s reindeer bao buns a few nights back… but alas the two I had weren’t nice. They were too thick and nowhere near enough filling and it makes me so sad (and also they were kinda crunchy?)

Twitter tried to put out a disastrous new policy a last night, then backtracked and now it seems Elon might be stepping from running it. If so good because that man is so thin skinned and petty.

I’m sure I had another thought but my head is empty.

Now I’m watching the Xbox uk stream while mum is zzz and then… I dunno. I might fic some or do Pokémon or something. (And hopefully do The Quarry some more later) or I might work some on the who red post
