Can you see the sky turn red?
Feb. 2nd, 2019 11:59 pmSo
raveninthewind is doing a February love meme thing so I figured I’d give it a go as well. For tonight I’m going to cover two things (since I forgot about it earlier) but for the rest of the time they’ll just be incorporated into regular posts.
1: So deciding on the first thing proved to be rather tricky, mainly because I wanted it to be something I’d not talked about before. I went through a few things, considering reccing fic or food or something random. Instead I settled on a song.
That song is Red Sky by Thrice
Now, there’s a story behind how I first listened to this song which I’ll share now. So ages ago, during The Black Parade record cycle, MCR did a cd for Kerrang. They each chose a few songs that they liked (and in the magazine they discussed them). Now, I can’t really remember what the other songs were. But Red Sky was definitely my favourite. I’d not heard Thrice before and there’s something about the song I love. Even now it’s perhaps my favourite song (I do love Burn The Fleet and Digital Sea from Alchemy Index though). It’s a fairly slow song as songs go and it surprised me that it was Bob that chose it. (He also chose the other one I really liked but it’s gone out my head)
So yeah, it’s a nice, unexpected song and I just... love it. Give it a listen.
2: So in a similar vein to that, my second pic is also an MCR thing.
For The Black Parade Is Dead they did a box set with a day of the dead mask painted by members of the band. At the time there was just the masks, without saying who did them and there was huge speculation as to who had done what.
Now I didn’t get a mask in the box set, but they did do random ones later so I managed to get one and I was so glad because it was the one I liked the most.
Here is a pic that was released later of the masks, revealing who did what.

Now at the time everyone thought Bob had done the simplest one and Gerard had done the most intricate. So I was as surprised as anyone that the most detailed one of the lot was done by Bob Bryar. It’s the one I have and it’s proper up on the fireplace, where it’s been since I got it. I just think it’s so beautiful and it shows an unexpected side to Bob, that he can be so artistic and creative. He could easily have been an artist himself with skills like that.
I wonder if he’s ever done any other art?
Did anyone else get one of the masks, if so whose?
So yeah, that’s my first two entries. I hope you enjoyed reading about them. I hope to do more over the course of the month so I’m gonna try and be random with them. (Hopefully covering things I’ve not mentioned before though i’m sure some will come up anyway.)
