This is one of those posts mostly rambling about various things.

We finished Hell Motel! Yay! Overall the series was pretty good, though there were a few times it felt like people died too close together. But I did like the first episode twist and it was a bold choice to finish on an ep so disconnected from the rest of the series.

It has made me curious about Slasher, so I might start it over spooky season and make it a weekly thing (with an ep or two) though we’ll see.

Yesterday was a lazy kinda day. It was mostly spent watching Murder She Wrote, then half watching Strictly while watching Seapeekay compete in twitch rivals. That was ok though early strictly is immensely long, though I did enjoy a few of the dances.

Then I watched Nine Bodies In A Mexican Morgue, which was pretty good. It’s about a plane that’s crashed in the Mexican jungle (or forest?) however among the survivors is a killer. And clearly a successful one as, when the plane is found 8 days later there’s 9 bodies of the 10 people on the plane. Who it is and why is gonna be the central mystery. It is funny though, it has the presenter of pottery throw down only she’s doing an American accent and it throws me off so hard.

I’m curious to see how it plays out and it seems mum is too.

On Friday a new film came to shudder, House On Eden. I didn’t watch it release day but did watch it last night. Thoughts under the cut.

I’d seen the trailer on shudder’s accounts and been curious, plus with it being only 78 minutes I figured it’d be an easy watch. (And if it was bad than no big)

Thankfully it was pretty good!

It’s about a team of paranormal investigators, investigating the titular House on Eden road. (Which feels a misnomer it doesn’t seem to actually be on a road). The start of the film is very Blair Witch coded which made me think they might just get lost on the way to the house. Then the rest of the film plays out like a paranormal investigation does. If you’ve seen Ghost Files or Sam And Colby (who get a cameo!) you know what I mean.

The whole thing is pretty well done which is impressive since it seems the team is pretty small. The investigators have nice chemistry, which probably comes from them actually doing investigations (I’ve not seen them though) which means they’re not playing characters but instead versions of themselves.

I’d probably give it an 8/10 as it was pretty effectively done, though you can pretty much tell where it’s gonna go but it did it so we’ll you don’t really mind.

Today I watched the next episode of Wednesday and yesss YESSSS it had Tyler shirtless and collared and chained. Thank you whoever decided to have him like that that was hot. A+ work I hope you get a raise.

The ep is mostly a great one not just cause of that. Christopher Lloyd’s cameo role is nice and it addresses one issue I had with season 1 the lack of other teachers. I really hate the new principle. Like wanting Bianca to use her powers and threatening her if she says no? That’s such dickish behaviour.

I do feel another issue from season 1 is gonna raise its head. It’s clear from this ep that Morticia is gonna be around a lot more this season as she’s moved into a cottage on campus. Already I feel unconvinced this will sell us on Catherine Zeta Jones’ performance of her. (However I do love Pugsley’s vibes)

There is also Wednesday’s stalker which uses Saw Like ‘do you want to play a game’type messages. And her chemistry with Enid is unmatched. If only they weren’t cowards and made them a couple. (And I love Enid’s friendship with Thing)

Finally I watched The Savages, after having the blu ray sitting there since it came out and that was…. *checks* March 27th. Damn.

I think I held off cause of the last season plus this is a first Doctor one . Thankfully it is a four parter which is good, because the longer ones are such a slog. Unfortunately the essence of the ep, two groups of people on a planet one exploiting the other, has been done better. The how is an interesting take though, with the essence of the ‘savages’ being used to enrich the elite.

It is just a bit of a talky one, though the animation does make things look nice. Also it is the last ep for Steven and his ending is such an odd one. He essentially get volunteered to stay and it felt he had no real say in it.

Overall it was better than I expected but I as I wasn’t expecting much…

Though it was funny the doctor had a device and he called it a ‘reacting vibrator’.

Tomorrow I’ve got a call which… ugh. I hate the calls they’re needlessly stressful. Since I’m not going to the mystery film I might watch the Stranger Things season 4 finale, but knowing me I won’t.

Then it’s the start of spooky season, deciding if I’ll try kinktober and a cinema trip I’ve still not settled on.

Early Strictly really is a slog, but there were some fun dances, and some terrible ones!

Hope the call goes okay, today.

I just finished the first episode of Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, enjoying it so far (considering that my top ten shows include Lost, Yellowjackets and The Wilds, this should not come as a surprise in the slightest.)

Hell Motel's one I've been meaning to get around to - as for Slasher, I watched the first three seasons on Netflix although did make the choice to skip the final scene of season 1 having been warned in advance about what it was and knowing it was something I didn't want to see (it adds nothing to the show). Flesh and Blood is one I could probably do with rewatching since I watched that in 2021 while not in the best headspace (it took me a lot longer than it should have to recognise the actor playing the main character Vincent when I saw him again as Randall in one of my other all time favourites, From.)

I always used to laugh at the way every time my grandad watched something on TV, he'd say something like "He's been in things. That's him, what's his name, him with the face." (Him with the face has become a family saying.) Then one time I was watching an episode of You, and Prudence from Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was having a massive argument with Kristoff from Once Upon a Time, and I realised I was just like him.

Oddly, the one person I seem to always miss it with is Granny from Once Upon a Time aka Maggie the wedding planner from Harper's Island - it took me ages to catch on to them being played by the same person and then I managed to miss her again as Grandma Hamilton in School Spirits (the actor playing her son is another Harper's Island veteran and I got him straight off.)

Speaking of, if you do check out Slasher #1, (the time to switch off for the scene I avoided is when new people move in to the street - best I can give without much of a spoiler) look out for Harper's Island's "Danny" as one of the main characters. Spotting Harper's Island cast members in other shows is practically a drinking game for me at this point because it happens so often.

I'm possibly more likely to miss it if it's something I've watched when I'm not in a good place - season 4 Slasher was the hangover from lockdown and other stuff, and I watched the first episode of From wondering why I recognised the actor who's in my icon before twigging that he had a recurring role in The Vampire Diaries in 2012. Then when I was telling that anecdote not that long ago, I realised I barely remembered his character's arc (his storyline coincided with when Grandad was ill and then died. 2012-13 is a pretty big blur.)

And if you read all that waffle I'm impressed.

I have what I call the DNR (Do Not Rewatch) list, but for me that tends to be about the actual subject matter more than whatever was going on in my personal life at the time (apart from Liz's death storyline in The Vampire Diaries, which was a little too close to home back then.) Things like the Lost episode where my het OTP and one half of my slash OTP are killed off in the same incident (and the guilty party remains dead to me 15 years on), anything gory with cats, anything too bad with eyeballs (which unfortunately includes so many of my favourite shows.) If I'm in a bad place I tend to find that I need to refresh my memories (for example, I recently re-read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes having realised I barely remembered it from first reading in lockdown.)
