Two posts in one day, but I finished Wednesday season 1 and have thoughts that might fade before next post

So as I mentioned earlier. I was gonna watch Wednesday. Since I had two episodes left of season 1, instead of watching just one I watched both which I did wanna try and do.

So first ep of the two and it was all fun and games with uncle fester showing up until poor thing got stabbed.

But I was following along with Wednesday’s logic, because I did also suspect the therapist (and Xavier). However as soon as she had the confrontations with them both I knew she couldn’t be right, partly because there was one ep to go but also because The Hyde killed the therapist, which I didn’t buy he’d actually do if she was the one in charge of him.

And then the final scene of Wednesday having the vision of Tyler The Hyde….

At the start of the following ep I assumed that Tyler was just being controlled unknowingly. (Though I did approve of him being all chained up.) and then the scene of him talking to her at the police station. I assumed he was just gonna rebuke her or something but instead he just confirmed she was right and that he was aware of what he was doing. And there was just something about the way he said it too that was just so…

I am so glad that Eugene woke up and was ok. Though it was kinda said when Wednesday finally trusted Weems (I assumed that was her shape shifted) that she died. Thornhill being behind it all was one of my guesses, but damn. It does raise further questions, like she could have just slipped something into the drinks at the Rave’n and poisoned everyone, but instead she raises Crackstone instead (and get insulted for her trouble).

I assume Goody Addams healing Wednesday with the condition she’d not see her again was written in so that that she wouldn’t have to be used again in future seasons.

And I loved Enid wolfing out to fight Hyde Tyler, that was cool. As was Eugene coming in with all his bees and sicking them on Thornhill. It did feel like a satisfying ending too with Crackstone banished, Thornhill knocked out (and presumably arrested) and Tyler being driven away somewhere.

But thoughts on the season as a whole.

Of course coming in cause of the season 2 trailer meant I knew something happened to Tyler to get him locked up, but I didn’t know what. After he got ‘attacked’ I just assumed that he the reason why was the slashes had infected him, so I wasn’t sure he was the threat until he revealed himself.

I dunno how common a complaint this is (and I guess it’s not really a complaint cause I was fine with it?) but it did feel like it could have been it’s own thing and was kinda… trading in on it being Addams family related? Does that make sense?

But a bigger issue was Nevermore is meant to be a school right? And yet we never really see any lessons (bar Thornhill’s) and it kinda felt that the only adults were Weems and Thornhill. This was especially glaring in the last ep, where they were trying to evacuate the school and there were… no adults around.

But overall I did really enjoy it. I liked the mysteries, everyone played off well against each other and Enid and Wednesday do have such chemistry it feels insane they didn’t pair them together. Plus Tyler’s hot, I love Tyler. He was cute as a barista but him being evil is so…

I’m looking forward to seeing the second season next week. Though, like with many online shows, it is gonna feel glaring that it’s been years between seasons. I guess we’ll see if that gets addressed or if they’re gonna act like everyone had growth spurts over the summer.

"I think that’s the thing with a show like this, when you have so many mysteries you’re always trying to figure things out and sometimes you see things that would be other solutions."

Yeah, and sometimes you accidentally come up with a better idea than the showrunners! Oops.

Duuude, you gotta watch The Devil's Candy. It should be on either Shudder or Tubi if not both. It's so good!

I see what I did. (Copied the wrong thing over from the clipboard.) Here's the real link: https://rhoda-rants.dreamwidth.org/380875.html
