Somehow the heat has returned

shadowhiveAs you can guess from the title, the heat has resumed. Which… ugh. I am not liking it one bit. Just yesterday the same issues returned (tiredness, achy eyes, sadness creeping in) which ugh. I’m not a fan of and I want it to go away.
However today the Lego U-Wing did arrive so I spent the morning doing that. It was a nice distraction, as Lego often is and when built it does look nice. The wings fold back nicely (which obviously is the main thing it should do) and the lil windows in the doors are actual windows. The downside is the cargo hold is a bit cramped and there’s no way of keeping K-2 in place so he does rattle around. But otherwise it’s pretty good (though it is funny it includes Dedra who gets nowhere near it).
Yesterday I started Clown In A Cornfield and I’ve read the prologue and two chapters (I’d have read more but heat). The prologue is obviously different than the film’s one. I did like the films one (albeit not liking that it was so far in advance of the story) but I think it’s good to have actually seen what happened to Cole’s sister (as opposed to being told it). I wonder if there was a reason that they didn’t show it (though I’d understand why it does sound like it’d be a health and safety nightmare).
I did got back on Still Wakes The Deep the other night and, sure enough, a monster did appear albeit only one this time. I did finish the dlc and it was pretty good but of course it was sad at the same time.
The other week mum ordered shoes from the Clark’s sale and, of course, they fit neither of us. (I was against getting them without trying them but she’s been badgering me about new ones for months.) so part of tomorrows trip is taking them back in store. But, of course she finds new shoes already and I’ve had to do them (from Amazon's prime sale and from tk maxx) and I’m not a fan of having to do that. I’d rather just get some in store cause then I could at least try them before buying but ugh. I’ve told her if these don’t fit it’s not gonna be discussed again and, thankfully, she agreed.
Tomorrow is gonna be a busy day going to take the aforementioned shoes back, checking in b and m (there’s a Lego flamingo cheap and also I saw there’s daleks for £1??) and a few other plays before seeing Jurassic World.
But part of me is thinking about getting that pass for the other cinema. Sure it’s a train ride away but the train is cheaper than the bus and it would mean I could do weekday showings instead of hoping for afternoon weekend ones. I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons of the whole thing to decide. Maybe if I could double up on films each time I go (to save travel expenses) that would make it better easier but I dunno.
I guess it would mean I’d see more films (both cause I’d have more options and be more willing to see things I wouldn’t normally). Plus there is a mystery film there at the start of next month and I’m really curious what it could be (the only hint is it’s a horror film)
Has anyone had cinema passes before? Is it a thing that you’ve found worth doing?
Anyway I dunno what I’m gonna do the rest of the night. I guess it depends on how melty my brain gets.
But oh I did sort out uni yesterday finally. It’s still annoying my options were only 30 point things but whatever.

Date: 2025-07-12 08:10 am (UTC)Of course, we have the car so travelling isn't much of an issue, plus, we have three Odeons within easy driving distance, but for just under £20 a month I go multiple times making the card more than worth it for me.
I don't know if it's Odeon you're thinking of but they have regular Screen Unseens, and occasionally Scream Unseens where you don't know what you're going to watch until the actual screening starts. But they always put clues on FB and mostly people work out what it will be.
You also get money off cinema food if you buy it there, which we don't tend to do as even without the discount it's just easier, and much cheaper, to get your own.
So yes, I'm a fan. But of course, like anything, it's only worth it if you think you'll actually go enough to make it worth it. Which, thinking of the price of individual tickets, would be at least twice a month.

There’s the local one, which is independently run which is good cause it’s closest. But it only does weeknights and weekends which means walking back for night showings. Plus it only shows 3 films max.
There’s the Odeon that’s in Birmingham. That has has many more screens but the expense of getting there is annoying
Then there’s this one, the light, which is pretty close (only three stops on the train) and it has lots of showings but the issue there is the expense. It’s this one I’m thinking of doing.
But yeah I’ve seen the screen unseen clues on twitter sometimes but I don’t think my local one does them (at least I’ve not seen them when I’ve looked). I’ve never been to a mystery showing (and didn’t know the light did them) so I have to admit I am intrigued
Yeah this one has 10% off food too but I agree cinema food is pricey (and I dunno why so many are crunchy!)
Yeah the pass for the light is less than two student priced tickets so it is worth it if I see at least two things a month. But of course that depends on what’s coming out. I know I’d get the value this month (with Fantastic Four and I Know What You Did Last Summer, plus the mystery screening). But there would give me more options than the local cinema (my usual go to) so I’d likely get the use as long as there’s interesting films

Date: 2025-07-12 02:30 pm (UTC)Yap away because I do think it's something that needs to be thought about carefully. Simply because, once you sign you'll probably be tied to a contract for a while so it's always better to think about pros and cons, and whether it'll be worth it financially.
What I've found is I go to see a load of films I maybe wouldn't have usually, simply because it won't cost anything. So, hopefully, that would happen to you, too, and it would be worth it.
Looking at your options, I'd discount the Odeon simply because of travelling to get there. Your local sounds a bit limited too if you wanted to maximise card use. Plus, walking home at night doesn't sound good, especially later in the year when it gets dark and cold.
I've never actually heard of The Light chain, but it does sound like it would be the best choice for you. If they do morning showings, you could do two film days easily, saving on transport costs too. Personally, I like the 11am - 1pm showings as it tends to be nice and quiet then.

Yeah that’s true! There’s also been a few films I’ve missed out on (cause the local hasn’t had them) that I’d have been able to see if I’d had it.
Yeah the odeon is alright if I’m in Birmingham for something else, but going just for it feels like a waste. And yeah. I might have got one for the local if it had one, but it’s just annoyingly limited you know? And yeah walking back it’s always a pain and puts bpme off going for things. Yeah the walk is doable but it’s just tiring (when I saw Sinners for instance I wasn’t back until about 10)
The site says there’s only 14 so maybe it’s a more local thing? But yeah they do morning showings (fantastic four has a 10am one on the first day) and I agree seeing two would save travel costs making it better
