So today has been a day of two halves.
As predicted mum’s friend wanted to get something, but thankfully it was early so I could zoom to down and come back (while also getting some stuff from Iceland, headache meds and an Agatha Christie book from a charity shop).
That meant I was back home in time for lunch and then could squirrel myself away for the twitch con No Dice panel. I expected it to be just a look back on the show which was fr the first half and then… well I’ll get to that. Was was funny was Krow was serving in its outfit, Bek and Aimsey looked nice, Owen had a slutty crop top and then there was Tubbo all in green which was ridiculous.
They played clips from the show which was fun to see all the mentions of various things (like Gwen dying constantly) but then Owen reminded us of how inconclusive the ending was… so they were going to do an actual ending! It was so cool getting everyone to play their characters in a renewed timeline and it was so funny (especially Tubbo playing both of his characters talking to each other). And then when everyone got togetlher some started to remember the events of the story (and ahhh there was a Zee/Martin moment which made me squee) and then there was an actual ending with fancy art that I hope they post. It was so incredible and awesome.
When I came down we took Naryu for a little walk and then I made notes for a fic idea (it’s one that needs a bit of planning) and then did a lil to the fic I’m working on….
But then there was the Doctor Who season finale, which I knew would be a distraction. And it was, but now in the aftermath it feels my creative energy has gone. Which, judging by that and the subject of the post? You can probably get the vibe of my thoughts on the ep.
But if you wanna know them in detail it’s behind the cut and, as it’s a season finale, it’s spoilery.
So I will say that I actually did enjoy the episode… for the first half. It opened with Anita returning from the Christmas special (which was a surprise) and she worked really well using the doors to help to fix things. Then the Rani shown up in the UNIT base and honestly? She was really great as were the bone beasts.
Then Omega came through the portal and… honestly I hated the beast that he became (and that he ate the new Rani! But at least Mrs Flood got away). However I almost forgave that. But then I realised something. Things see,Ed to be wrapping up and I checked and…. There were thirty minutes left to go.
If it had ended there I think it would behave been a solid ep. But it didn’t and man. That last half hour.
So from the first part the Doctor and Belinda have a kid in the Wish World, a kid who is, for some reason, Poppy from Space Babies. (Ruby dles notice and comment on that but it’s pretty much ignored.) This Poppy isn’tis the result of the Wish World and so isn’t actually real. There’s an attempt to keep her around and then when things feel like they’re wrapping up it seems that it didn’t work and she’s gone. For some reason though (which is unexplained) Ruby remembers her and is insistant on bringing her back. Again in spite of her not actually being real.
So the doctor decides to try and bring her back… by using regeneration energy. The Thirteen doctor comes back to try and talk him out of it (a nice moment) but in the end he does it, using regeneration energy to bring back this child. Which again, wasn’t real.
It is a bizarre choice to do this, not just to the doctor but also Belinda. She suddenly has a child now which obviously wasn’t the case before (she sees Poppy in the story and the engine and doesn’t react like ‘oh what’s my daughter doing here?’) and it just… it feels so wrong to take a character and make her a mother to a child that wasn’t real.
And then the regeneration happens and 15 turns into… Billie Piper’s face. That was a rumour I’d heard but wrote it off as being utterly absurd. And I just….
Fuck.
I miss 15 already. He never got to fight the daleks. (Or the cybermen or the master). And now Rogue’s cameo last week which I was so excited about feels worthless cause now they’re not gonna meet again. And also what was the deal with Susan for no payoff at all?
Honestly the more I think about it the more mad I am. 15 was a really good doctor and he deserved more stories and he didn’t even get to fight iconic villains or anything. And now there’s this regeneration which feels like it’s gonna be a repeat of the specials. (And that’s another thing where the fuck was 14 during all of this??)
And just…. Ugh.
Man, I really hate how this has turned out.
At least I didn’t see it in the cinema
Minor edit: it’s the next day and I’m still so genuinely mad and upset about this. What awful character assassinations for both 15 and Belinda that makes the whole arc tainted.

Date: 2025-06-02 02:31 pm (UTC)I’m so pissed that they bought back Rogue last week for that cameo. I didn’t expect him in this ep (cause there was so much to resolve) but hoped that would mean the doctor would look for him next season and now? I just feel so upset about it cause it won’t happen
Yeah! i don’t get that either? I dunno why it wasn’t explained. I feel the plot would have been much better if Belinda had a kid right from the start (it’d also explain why she wanted to get home so bad) and have that kid go missing. But no instead it was this wish baby so they forced motherhood upon her
Yeah there was so so much that felt so wrong and to up it be Ncuti’s last ep too?

Date: 2025-06-02 02:59 pm (UTC)I thought that too. Between the cameo and showing the dance again it felt like they were setting up a scenario where the doctor would go looking for him, and then, nothing.
I'm glad I didn't know about the rumours going in. It must have been horrible for you seeing them come true.
