Dawn Of A New Day

After the nonsense of Sunday night/Monday and yesterday, I’m actually feeling a lot better, much more ‘normal’ and certainly stable on my feet (and able to eat!). Clearly whatever it was (be it a bug or stress induced) is over now. So that’s good.

Today was the Switch 2 Direct stream which was A Lot. It started off really strong, showing off a new Mario Kart and honestly some of the racers are wild. The many one highlighted was a cow, but people have freeze framed all kinds of stuff, goombas, penguins, even a dolphin. It looks so pretty and looks like it’ll be a lot of fun.

Mario Kart was the ‘main’ first party nintendo title (it’s even getting its own direct in two weeks) and the focus of the rest of the stream was a bit more all over the place. There were some games from partners coming to switch 2, including Hades II which looks so cool.

There’s also gonna be a new Hyrule Warriors game which looks really cool, set during the time Zelda was in the past during TOTK. That’s gonna be a must get, as is the new Zelda amiibo cause there’s finally my boy Prince Sidon!

Then there’s updates to some switch games which seems like a mixed bag. Some are free, others require a paid upgrade (though some are free with Nintendo online) which feels a bit… I guess it depends on what the content actually is if it’s worth it but I guess we’ll see. (It also feels a bit wrong that the tech demo thing isn’t included and is a paid thing)

But then we come to the big elephants in the room. First it’s coming a lot sooner than I expected. It’s coming June 5th which is a little over two months. The second is the price. It’s £396 which is A Lot to put together in two months even under ideal circumstances but there is a £430 bundle which adds Mario Kart (which considering the game is about £70 it is a saving).

I’d like to get it on release of course, cause I have got the last nintendo consoles on release, but I’m not sure I will cause of the timing. Maybe Amazon will have an option to spread the cost, or nintendo will still have the student discount. We’ll see.

There’s also gonna be two nintendo treehouse streams tomorrow and Friday so I’ll watch them for info on the other games.

After that there was a new Star Wars trailer for an animated show coming on May 4th, Tales Of The Underworld and it looks so cool! It’s got Ventress, who is always an interesting character as well as Cad Bane who is pretty cool too. I’ll definitely watch it all on release because I need.

Now though my energy has felt depleted which is a shame. I might just do the daily xbox games and then flop.

I'm ngl, I'm super excited for the Switch2 but I'm going to try to hold out for the second gen of the console. Although the Mario Kart World has me seriously grabbyhands - if they'd announced a new Animal Crossing it might have been game over. But I'm gonna try and wait and hope they bring out an OLED

Yeah I can absolutely relate to that! Like Mario Kart World looks amazing, don’t get me wrong but if there was an Animal Crossing (or new Zelda) on release it’d be an insta buy no matter what! I am hoping they do announce an Animal Crossing though, there is still time (especially for a holiday release) but…

That’s fair! To be honest I dunno what the difference is between an OLED and anything else though

I'm excited to see the treehouse streams as well, wonder what we'll get to see

So LCD v OLED is LCD screens use a backlight to illuminate pixels, while OLED's pixels produce their own light.

Me too! I think we’re see Mario Kart, Donkey Kong and that wheelchair basket ball game at least (which did look like a pretty cool concept)

Every time a game comes out "sooner" than expected, I'm suspicious that A) it'll be buggy as hell, and will get a patch several months later to fix it, B) some of the work was done by AI instead of real humans, or C) the developers weren't given reasonable hours or expectations to finish their jobs.

I miss cartridges and complete discs. Y'know, stuff that's 100% DONE as soon as you have it in your hands and that doesn't require me to log into anything. (There are reasons I don't have a console anymore, and this is a big one.)

Wow, I'm in a bad mood today! I guess I'm trying to make you feel better about not spending that ridiculous amount of money right away? Like you don't have to get it the day it comes out. Even when I was a gamer, I waited for everything to hit the discount rack.

Yeah I feel that’s true in some cases. In this case there wasn’t a release date anyone knew about, just a vague ‘coming 2025’ so I (and others) assumed the console would be releasing in the latter half of the year instead of summer

Honestly that’s so fair! Like it feels every game now has a day one patch, which fine if it’s to fix a few bugs you missed but these always seem to be several gb’s! And yeah logging in is such a pain I don’t wanna be logged into a new thing just to play

Maybe you just woke on the wrong side of the bed?😅 But yeah, I have a tendency to wait on discounts (bar Pokemon and Zelda and they rarely get discounted much anyway)
