It was Coy’s first Christmas away from home, which was a little strange but he’d tried his best to make his place festive. He’d hung decorations everywhere and him and Grayson had spent a day setting up the tree. Well, Grayson had set the tree up, Coy did the decorating. But he thought it looked pretty if he said so himself. He’d gotten a few decorations from his trip to New York and a few more from various trips to stores so it was a chaotic mix of baubles of various sizes and shapes.
Beneath it were a few presents, mostly from their friends and family. Karl had left some before going to visit his family, which were wrapped neatly with a purple snowflake patterns. That was a contrast to the ones Foolish had given them before heading to Ohio, the shark pattern paper was cute but they were covered in a mass of tape to hold them together. It was endearing in its own way.
Next to the tree were the gift’s he’d got Grayson, which he’d just bought down. He really hoped that he’d like them because he wasn’t exactly the easiest of people to buy for.
Speaking of Grayson he wasn’t exactly sure where he had gotten to. It was Christmas Eve and he’d mumbled something about getting something from the store, but Coy wasn’t sure what it could possibly be. They’d gotten all the food that they’d need for the two of them days ago to avoid having to go anywhere and Coy had been hoping to spend the day just curled up on the sofa with him, watching something silly and festive.
He sighed softly, sipping the mug of cocoa he’d made for himself, not really paying attention to whatever was on tv. It just wasn’t the same doing this alone.
He almost jumped when he heard the door open and he leaned forward setting the cup down on the coffee table so as not to make a mess. He looked up as Grayson came into the room, wearing a jacket and purple woollen hat which was cute but didn’t really suit him at all. “Sorry it took so long, traffic was crazy.”
“That’s why we got everything in advance!” Coy pouted, though it didn’t last long as he was grateful he was back. “What was so important anyway?” He asked as he looked him over, noting he didn’t have any boxes or bags with him. If he had just gone to get something stupid like batteries he’d pick up the nearest pillow and throw it at him.
“It’s a present for you.” His lip twitched into a slight smile and Coy felt himself soften a little, even though he had the urge to throw a pillow because he’d left it so let. “Close your eyes while I go get.”
“Alright.” Coy did as he was told, both his eyes lidding and he heard Grayson move away from him, then heard the door open again, no doubt to get whatever it was. He kept his eyes shut tight, wondering what it could be but he had no real idea. Coy had dropped a few hints for the sorts of things he might like, but he wasn’t sure if Grayson had picked up on them. Before he could think more on it he heard the door open and close again, followed by more sounds of movement.
“Ok you can open them now.”
Coy opened his eyes and blinked a few times at what he saw before him. There was Grayson with that same slight smile on his face, but what surprised him was that next to him stood Toby. He was dressed in a jacket and was grinning, though there was a slight tiredness to his eyes. “Wait what? I thought you couldn’t make it?”
“I almost didn’t, but I wanted to be with you.”
Coy grinned and got to his feet, wrapping his arms around him and pulling him into a tight hug, which made him gasp. He felt Toby’s lips gently kiss his forehead, which made Coy beam even more. He kissed Toby’s cheek, then pulled away from him. “You must be so tired from travelling! Take off your jacket, I’ll get you something to drink and you can tell me all about your trip.”
Toby nodded and gave him a grateful smile, starting to take off his jacket as Coy turned to Grayson. He had already removed his own and Coy pulled him close for a quick kiss. “Thank you for a wonderful present.” Grayson gave him a fond smile when they parted and he left to get them something to warm them up.

That night Coy sat on the sofa in front of the fire, with one of his favourite Christmas movies playing on the tv. It was Muppet Christmas Carol, one of those films that he watched every year that somehow always filled him with festive joy.
Toby was curled up on his left side, his head resting on his shoulder as he slept peacefully. The long trip and long nights beforehand had really took it out of him, so he wasn’t going to blame him, especially since he was here. During a break between the songs he kissed him on the forehead the arm he had wrapped around him squeezing him gently. He still couldn’t believe he was here, that he’d come all this way and he fully expected to wake and this be a dream.
On his other side was his other boyfriend Grayson, who was giving them a fond look. “You both look so cute together.” His voice was softer than usual so as not to disturb Toby and Coy smiled.
“I guess we are.” Coy smiled, reaching up and stroking Grayson’s cheek gently. “Though you’re pretty cute yourself. Especially without whatever that was.” He stroked his upper lip, glad he’d shaved the hair that was there away. “Thank you for this, bringing him here was…”
“I knew you were missing him.” Grayson replied leaning into his touch, kissing his palm. “And I know he could use a break. This way we can all just… enjoy the holidays together and be…”
“A proper family.” Coy finished and Grayson nodded, which made him smile warmly. “Now come closer, you know I get spooked my the ghost of Christmas future.” Grayson shuffled closer to him and Coy rested his head on his shoulder, feeling more content than he’d ever been.
He hoped every Christmas could be like this.
