So last night I finally went back on Resident Evil 2. I didn’t get to far though. When I last left off the game Od just ended RPD. This time I went a little around the ground floor, finding a notebook with notes on a dead guy (well a guy that wasn’t dead but died as Leon helped pull him out), encountered another survivor, got the first medallion, the ground floor map and found the dark room save room.

It’s definitely creepy and it feels like these zombies are annoyingly hard to take down (which makes me scared when I see one which I guess is the point). I expect as a result it’ll be slow going doing this (especially as my damn knife broke). Part of me does wonder if I should just skip to Resident Evil 4, but then I’d either forget the info I found (the notebook) or, if the controls are different, screw up that way. I’ll ponder it some. (Then again I dunno how much there is of 2 outside of RPD)

(Speaking of Resident Evil stage times for insomnia went up and there’s no Resident Evil panels which is both good as it means I’m not missing one but feels like a super missed overt unity)

I did finish the sea devils special features after that, which were just a few audio and news things on the disc. The second Sea Devils disc (which I switched to when Midna moved) has three special features but they’re all gonna be pretty big ones so I’ll spread them out.

I did look for the new pod thing last night but it’s very much awol. I hope to find it soon, even though I don’t use it too much, but at least I had the old one for today.

Today I woke and my tummy seemed fine and the weather was nice so after checking the buses were back on I decided to go to see Mario (though it kinda felt a bit forced since mums friend was here again needing us to order things so I had to take money in which was annoying). Game didn’t have the figure I was gonna get from the sale that I saw Saturday, so I might check the nearer one when we’re near it (or go alone). The only thing I did get was the micro fighter of Boba Fett’s starfighter from Asda after the film which is kinda cute.

Anyway, Mario thoughts under the cut.

So I knew it might be busy because of half term but I didn’t think it would be as busy as it was. There was easily at least ten times the people there as there was when we went to see Dungeons and Dragons. I’m pretty sure (though not certain) I was the only ‘adult’ person not there with kids Oop. Thankfully despite there being so many kids they weren’t loud which was a relief.

There was a general Disney trailer, one for guardians (which surprised me), one for Elemental (gives kinda Zootopolis vibes) and one for Trolls (which at least made me laugh at the band references).

I’d seen that reviews of Mario were mixed so I admit, I braced myself a bit for it being bad. However it wasn’t, I thought it was pretty fun though there were a few shortcomings. If you’ve seen a trailer you’ll know it looks great, it’s beautiful and bright. There’s loads of references and cameos of various creatures and other things in the backgrounds. And the music is pretty great too especially when it references Mario music.

I was worried Chris Pratt as Mario would spoil the whole thing, especially since trailers had other characters talk but not him. Thankfully he was actually pretty good in the role. It’s obvious that Jack Black was having fun as Bowser and everyone else was pretty great too. Lumalee especially was so funny, with their dark lines in such a happy voice.

My favourite part was probably the rainbow road chase, which was a surprise cause I wasn’t sold on that in the trailers but it worked. I also liked Luigi’s arrival in the dark world which actually ended up being pretty spooky.

The main shortcoming was it was just that, it felt a little short. The film’s 92 to minutes and it could’ve done with an extra few minutes to further flesh some parts out. (And I’d have loved to see more of Luigi and Bowser together.) I wasn’t too sold on some of the Brooklyn parts either. I’d have loved to have seen more of Luigi in general too, maybe with the dark world but being a bit longer.

I dunno if there’ll be a sequel (but I expect so if the packed showing I was at was any indication) but if there is there’s definitely a few things that can be picked up:

*What is that place under Brooklyn? Did anyone know about it before hand?
*Where did Peach come from?
*Something with Yoshi, because you don’t show a herd of Yoshi without them showing up again at some point
*More stuff in the dark world (and the other worlds too)
*With Lumalee there what about Rosalina and other galaxy’s stuff
*And, of course, since Bowser is imprisoned you just know someone is gonna come free him.

I’m sure I had other thoughts but they’ve gone now.

Now I’m gonna bundle up and watch Taskmaster in a bit and Ranboo after. And then tomorrow there’s the Star Wars Celebration stream (which is on all weekend, but I suspect tomorrow is when all the big main reveals will be).

I’m glad Chris Pratt was ok as Mario, tbh I thought it was a bad choice and I was confused why they didn’t use a.., yk…. Italian guy 😭

I'm glad you enjoyed Mario. I think I'm giving it a pass, but it does look fun.

I'm really liking this lineup in Taskmaster. This weeks episode was fun but I still laugh when I think about the barge task in episode one.
