Lego minecraft thoughts

(So I wrote this the other day and decided to post it now cause I forgot to take better pics, I might add more later)

So I got some Lego Minecraft sets this past week and, since their retail is the same, I thought I’d post some thoughts on them. (Though I did get the Bee Farm on sale so it was a third off.) I’ll post thoughts in order of how I built them.

The Bee Farm

Figures

The bee farm comes with two figures, a beekeeper and a villager. The beekeeper has a striking bee outfit and wings on their back, so they look like a bee. The look pretty good and they come with a shovel too for… some reason.

The other figure is a villager which is an odd figure. I’m guessing, since their body is a new part, that this must be how they look in the game. Apart from the head they have no movement which is odd. A quick look at the minecraft wiki shows that this is exactly how they look in game, so props on accuracy.

You also get two honeycombs which are set next to the villager when they’re made up, which is odd cause they can’t hold them and I’m not sure where to put them best.

Creatures

So with a set called the bee farm the set’s obvious gonna have bees and these feature two kinds, with four of each for a total of eight. Each other is made from only a handful of parts but you can instantly tell what they are. Even if you didn’t know minecraft you could tell that these are bees. And they are so sweet! The only difference between the bees is that the first type are angry (with red eyes) and the second type are normal (with black ones). They have no movement but that’s ok because they’re just so cute (and I honestly can’t see how you could include any into them)

There’s also a sheep included with them for some reason. They’re adorable and look pretty small so maybe it’s a lamb? I’m not sure.

Set

The set is raised up a little so it feels pretty sturdy (theres a reason for that which we’ll get to) and it has quite a lot going for it considering how small it is. There’s a little water area (a pond or river section) and there’s some flowers around for the bees. There’s also the stems of… something growing though I’m not sure if it’s meant to be anything specific. There’s also a little fire which is cool. And there’s a stand to make of one the nice bees fly which is cute.

There’s two trees, each made of different wood which is a nice touch. The bigger one has a little bee house (I dunno if it’s meant to be a hive) where you can slide a bee in. Unfortunately there’s nothing there to keep it in place so it can slip out if it’s knocked. The top of the tree also comes off to place another bee in there… there the tile used is odd. It has a connection point, but can’t actually connect with the bee so it would’ve been better if it was just smooth.

The main feature of the set is a wheel on the side. When you turn it, the clear stand with the mean bees on turns around. It’s a relatively simple movement but it’s actually quite nice. And I’ve turned it quite a few times since it’s near where I’m sitting.

Bees!
Cute little sheep
Sturdy
Nice bee figure
Lots of stuff
BEES!

There could have been a connection point to stop the bee from sliding
Another stand for the nice bees to fly would’ve been nice

The Horse Stable

Figures

This set comes with two figures, a stable hand and a skeleton. The stable hand is a nice looking figure and comes with some kind of farm tool.

The second figure is a skeleton, which has a purple helmet and matching bow, which look nice, it’s a little funny how their legs look small compared to the body. Though skeleton! *sings the song*

Creatures

Being a horse stable it comes with two horses, one a full grown one and one marked as a baby one. The baby one is slightly smaller and looks pretty cute, while the grown one is bigger and is wearing some sort of armour. The good thing about these horses though is the movement, their heads, back legs and tails can all move which is nice.

However that’s not all, the set also comes with an extra horse, this one a skeleton one! Although it’s largely built in the same way as the other horses there are some differences, such as the lack of tail. But the main difference is the head which looks so nice

Set

Unlike the bee farm the stable is built on flat plates which makes it a little more fragile. In front of the stable is a little fence as well as a… thing to jump over. I dunno what the technical name is. To one one side there’s two boxes stacked up which the instructions show can be placed as another obstacle. The opposite side has a crate with two carrots a regular and gold one. (Annoyingly this was placed early on in the construction, so I had to put the carrots to one side.

The stable itself has two stalls with open doors for the horses and they can fit easily and be stable. The doors are pretty small but look nice. There’s also a little area with water inside (and a bucket with some too). The only downside during the construction was the roof. It’s a nice looking roof but when I attached it to the rest of the structure it exposed how fragile it was as the plates came apart which was annoying.

Horses!
The skeleton horse looks cool
As does the skeleton

It’s a little fragile.
Roof attachment could’ve been better

The Trading Post

Figures

The trading post has three figures with it, the first of which is Steve. Although he’s common in sets up this is my first time having him (and I’m quite pleased how, among the sets all of the figures are unique… well bar one). He comes with a sword of some kind.

The second one is a trader, which uses the body of the villager so is static. However he’s wearing a bright blue outfit which is quite striking and looks really nice.

Lastly there’s a skeleton, which is built the same as the one with the stable. They lack a helmet though and come with a regular bow, which makes them different enough to me.

Creatures

Now while the other two sets had the name of the creature in the set this didn’t and I definitely think these creatures are the big draw of the set. They’re two llamas! There’s both the same construction wise though one is tan and one is white. Both are very cute looking, though I do thing it might’ve been better if the colours were a bit more different, as a few times I had to double check I was using the right colour parts. (Ie with one brown of black)

Set

Unlike the other two sets this one is in a desert environment so instead of having green plates they’re tan and brown which is a nice contrast. The set has two main areas to it. The first is the titular trading post. The roof is attached much like the stable, but as it’s on a little raised area it feels less fragile attaching it. The roof itself looks nice, with yellow and red which stands out. One of the main features of the sets is included here, you turn a wheel on the side and the counter rotates to show the traders wares! Unfortunately the trader doesn’t seem to actually have much to trade. There’s a cookiee and a round blue tile and that’s it.

The second part of the set is a small cave. There’s a torch on the entrance and some minecraft tracks. As the cave is small there’s not a lot to it, however there is a second feature here. A tnt block is on the side and when you press a lever part of the cave breaks apart.

+
Llamas are cute
The trader looks striking

-
Trader doesn’t actually have much to trade

Overall

As mentioned at the start these sets are all at the same retail price point, £17.99. I think they’re all quite nice in their own way, but I think of the three the trading post is the weakest one (if the trader just had a few more things to trade it would be higher). I think it’s no secret that my fav of the three is the bee farm because the bees are just so cute!

There's something beautifully ironic about a Lego Minecraft set. I've always thought Minecraft was very Lego-ish, and now they're taking it back! I kind of love that. Enjoy the bee farm!
