Prompt 5: Bloodstone
Typically dark green with red inclusions, Bloodstone is often used to increase one’s courage, motivation, and creative energy. It’s also beneficial for endurance and physical strength. The Ancient Greeks held the Bloodstone as a gem with glorious powers and referred to it as Heliotrope, which directly translates to Sunstone. If your birthday lies in the month of March (or if you are an Aries), you can count Bloodstone as one of your birthstones as a means of action and vitality.

So when I first heard the name bloodstone, a few years ago, I pictured it as a deep red stone, much like blood. So I was surprised when I first saw the stone and, instead, it was green with red flecks.

My thoughts when I think of it naturally focus on the first part of the name, blood. Which of course makes me think of horror stuff which feature a lot of blood. I’ve not seen anything like that for awhile, I’ve been bad at watching horror things in general, but I was going to watch the new Resident Evil series which looks gory (even though some things seem… questionable from what I’ve seen). However since I felt unwell a few days back in I ended up not watching and I’m not sure when I’ll start it.

I used to be bad at bloody stuff. I remember when I watched an ep of the X-Files, Chinga (the one wrote by Stephen King with a creepy doll) and having a nightmare that night. Not that I can remember what said nightmare was. I used to be so squeamish when it came to watching anything with surgeries in (mum used to watch stuff like causality and such when I was younger but that trailed off) but again, I’m better at it, though I still sometimes wince.

It’s probably a surprise, then, that I saw both Hostel films in the cinema which are both pretty bloody. There’s only actually one part that still gets me to look away even now (in the first one, and if you’ve seen you can probably guess what).

Huh that ended up on a weird tangent oops.

As for the stone itself I do actually have a bloodstone. I got a bunch of stones awhile back, and one of them was a bloodstone.

And speaking of stones…

If you read my response to the moonstone prompt you’ll remember I had a lucky one but couldn’t find it. Well a few days ago I saw the jacket I wore when I last remember having it, so decided to check the pockets just in case and… there it was!

I spent the weekend watching various Twitch con stuff, which is a mix of wild and entertaining and just crazy. It has made me wish that Insomnia, which is in Birmingham next month, manages to get some cool people so it’s worth a visit but I somehow doubt it. Plus it’d mean being around people. In the heat. Ugh

On Saturday Superman and Lois started again, which is pretty good. Although the military creating their own supermen (super people?) seems like a bad idea.

I watched Ad Astra Saturday since the ads made it look pretty good. And while, yeah, the visuals were pretty amazing it was actually so… eh. And it ended up feeling so bleak. By the end it felt like a slog, and that I was only watching to know how it would end.

(The bleakness didn’t help the rest of the night which was a massive depression bout)

I was gonna try and watch TUA Sunday but, again, didn’t. I just didn’t have the focus. Plus there was a stream which distracted me. We did watch a Murder In Provence at the night which was pretty good so I’m looking forward to seeing more of that. Mum did surprise me by saying we should watch the Blade Runner sequel (because when we saw it in the cinema it was a bit blah and the audio was terrible) although we didn’t end up watching cause she went tired. We might in an afternoon but… who knows.

Yesterday I ended up going to the laundrette which was a bit annoying, but I did end up reading The High Republic Adventures volume 1 while I was waiting. Then we watch a mystery thing on channel 5 in the afternoon.

In the night I watched some of the Who ray special features for the Two Doctors which was pretty interesting. Whatever you think of the story it looked like they had a nice time out in Seville and it sounds like Patrick Troughton was so nice to everyone. The second special feature I watched, Adventures In Time And Spain, seems like it would be a useful thing for inspiring filmmakers to watch, especially when doing location stuff.

I also did some Elder Scrolls Online, doing the High Isle prologue quests so now I’m ready to start High Isle itself whenever I next go on. Woo! I hope there’s some interesting quests in the region, like an investigation or some familiar faces. I fully expect Rigurt to show up again, he’s always fun. (Then again would they really trust him for peace talks?)

The main issue these past days has been this heat. It’s been so unbearable. Going outside is impossible. Doing too much results in melting. And it’s resulted in restless sleeps and long nights. It’s just so annoying. Apparently there’s an amber warning here for a thunderstorm tomorrow and I really really hope it’s true.

This morning I found out that Safari decided to do its thing of randomly losing tabs. The worst thing is when it happens they don’t show up as recently closed, so I can’t just bring them back that way so unless you can remember them they’re lost forever. Which… I could only recognise four which were missing which is so damn annoying.

I finally decided to get back into listening to the Penumbra Podcast, listening to the next Juno Steel (the stolen city because that’s where I left off) and I had such issues cause the net went odd and then Spotify went odd. I managed to finish it off and I wanna see what happens so might put the second part on later.

Lastly, Fortnite is doing a refer a friend thing, so if anyone is interested in doing that or starting it, feel free to hit me up. Info is here

Slight edit: ok not lastly cause I got my uni result and I passed my course woo!
