9: Nearest Book - 1. Grab the nearest book; 2. Open the book to page 123; 3. Find the fifth sentence; 4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions; 5. Don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.

My nearest one is The Empire Strikes Back From A Certain Point Of View

In Veers’ mind, there were those who led, and those who followed. Sometimes a person was one, sometimes the other. It was important, Veers has learned, to excel in either role.

11: Kleenex Moment - Pick the top five movies that make you cry, and tell us what the Kleenex Moment is (when do you reliably reach for the hankies).

Honestly, I don’t cry too much at films. In fact, I hardly do in real life. I can only think of three that have so...

Star Wars Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith
When I first saw this I got teary at three points: during order 66, then when Padme confronts Vader and then after Obi-Wan beats him. I think it made me teary largely because of the music as much as anything. Order 66 has got more emotional since then, largely due to the clone wars making the Jedi proper characters.

Up
When I first saw Up I cried as so I had to pause it and that’s just in the first ten minutes or so of the film. Anyone that’s seen it will know what scene that is. Largely it made me cry because I’d lost my grandparents and just seeing that...

Star Wars Episode VIII - The Last Jedi
Yes Star Wars again. This was at scene partway through where Leia uses the force (and a little when Luke and Leia reunite). I think this was largely compounded by the fact that Carrie Fisher had died (which was something else I cried at) and so those scenes just gave me more feels.

13: Which SciFi/Fantasy Character Are You?

So I knew when I started this I wanted to fit Bullet in there somewhere so here they are.

Bullet For My Valentine are a metal band from Wales and they’ve been going for some time now. I got into them after someone recced them to me (on lj I think) and I got there self titled EP (LP? It was short) and then when their first album, The Poison, came out I went to a signing of theirs at the big hmv. At the time I was shy, plus I hadn’t put names to faces so I didn’t say too much.

The first video is from that album, Tears Don’t Fall.

So ignoring the crazy chick with no regards for road safety the main thing from it is the band playing in the rain, because wet Welshmen are always good because Unf.

Which brings me to another reason I wanted to do Bullet at some point which is Jay James the bassist/screamer. Now I thought all the guys were pretty hot (to varying degrees) but I developed a fixation on Jay that’s never really gone away. It’s a shame, then, that he left the band (for reasons still unknown) and has pretty much disappeared. It makes me pretty sad.

It’s also pretty sad that there’s next to no fic of them, other than ones I’ve poked people into doing. (Especially since they’ve done things like *gestures at icon*)

Anyway the second vid is Waking The Demon, from Scream Aim Fire their second album.

The main story is set in a school (an American one for some reason) with a kid getting bullied, with him marking off a calendar to a full moon. You can guess why,

The band performance side is much like Tears, sans rain and it has Jay with long hair which is his hottest look.

I think part of the reason I decided to do Bullet now is because it got mentioned that it’s Matt’s birthday a few days ago. He’s the singer and he’s a bit... insufferable. He comes off as a tad arrogant, and when it’s a full band interview he used to do all the talking. (To the point in a few you can tell that Jay is bored/irritated which I suspect is why he left).

The band’s best album, annoyingly perhaps, is the last one Gravity, which came out several years ago when I was in a really bad place. It felt like every song on there resonated with how I felt, which was really... strange. One of the songs inspired the name change of my tumblr, from Shadowhive to leftmetodrown.

So yeah, like before lemme know what you think and such.

Ironically since snowflake is about memes here’s one. From [personal profile] pushkin666

1. Comment on this post by saying Rhubarb! in the comments and I'll pick three things from your interests, tags or profile post (include a link if you like).

2. Make a post in your journal (or comment here) and talk about the words/phrases I've picked.

Bob Bryar

Bob Bryar was the drummer of My Chemical Romance, which I’m sure many of you know. Like with Jay though he left the band and there’s never been a clear reason as to what happened (though I suspect it wasn’t his choice if his seeming bitterness is anything to go by).

When he was in the band I liked him, the guys spoke highly of him (especially in life on the murder scene) and he was another connection to The Used (being one of their techs) and Fall Out Boy (being from Chicago, and I seem to recall some connection with Patrick maybe?), although those seemingly are missed in fic. I liked how soft his voice was and his eyes. He looked best with long hair (cause yeah, I have a type).

Eurovision

I think the best way to describe Eurovision to people that haven’t seen it is by this from a few years ago. It’s called Love Love Peace Peace and it’s a humorous take on what the show is all about.

The Eurovision Song Contest is, as the name suggests, a song contest that started with European countries (though it’s become a tad more... flexible over recent years). It started as a unity project, to bring all the nations together and it’s largely succeeded in doing that. The biggest act to win Eurovision is ABBA.

Usually it’s an annual thing, though because of lockdown it sadly didn’t go ahead. Usually though, it’s a spectacle and it’s always a fun night. Some songs are good, some songs are... less good. The voting is at times more political than based on merit (people voting for neighbours) and the uk almost always comes towards the bottom alas.

Whole shows are available on youtube if you won’t to see, though it’s a pretty long time commitment (though you can fast forward the voting). Alas the youtube ones don’t have the commentaries which is a shame, because what makes the uk version so fun is the snarky commentary from Terry Wogan or more recently Graham Norton.

Harry Potter

To many people Harry Potter is a big part of their childhood and the books got them through a lot. Which is why, in recent times, people have had their hearts broken because JK a has become transphobic (or more open about it). Thankfully I never read them.

When it came out I was not, in the slightest, interested. It didn’t register on my radar at all. It wasn’t until mum got a video of the first one and we watched it that I become interested. Because let’s be honest, the films are pretty good (bar the few odd plot holes).

My favourite of them is Goblet Of Fire, aka the year everyone looked good cause long hair. (See a pattern.) I’ve been to the Potter exhibit, cause mum got tickets for one of her birthdays. It was nice, though I didn’t care much on the butterbeer.

So yeah if any of you wanna ask about my interests let me know and I’ll add them here too

Edit: additions under the cut
