shadowhive: (Prince Sidon Zora Prince!)
Prompt 1: Red
Red is a strong color that is associated with a variety of things including: courage, power, glory, love, passion, inner strength, romance, sensuality, defiance, tenacity, violence, life, pleasure, fire, and revolution.

Life moves out of a red flare of dreams
Into a common light of common hours
Until old age brings the red flare again. —William Butler Yeats

For some, the color red can signify personal power and tenacity. When something flares red for you, what does that mean? When was the last time you felt the power of a red concept or emotion?

Please feel free to answer in whichever way comes naturally to you, be it a memory you share or an artwork you create. If you’d like a more specific idea to kick things off: try writing a poem or a drabble that encapsulates the red theme.

So the sunshine challenge has now begun with this. What comes to mind when I think of red?

Well the obvious thing that comes to mind first is blood, from vampires, injuries or killers. Then there’s fandom specific stuff. The red of Star trek uniforms. Star Wars has a lot of red, from lightsabers to the praetorian guards from The Last Jedi (fighting against a red backdrop). There’s the red of fire pokemon. There’s the red of Prince Sidon from Breath Of The Wild. And the red of Mario. And the shock of red that is Party Poison’s hair.

To me personally red signifies anger and I’ve certainly had my flare ups of that recently. Mostly at how the world currently is or at leaders being... well useless. But also at people being needlessly vicious or cruel or just downright stupid.

Yesterday proved to be a lazy day, as I was achy still from Monday’s late food shop. So instead of reading like I planned I dozed which is annoying. Mum decided to do veggie sushi which was nice but damn it fills me up.

On the night I went on Elder Scrolls Online some and I’m almost done with the southern Elsweyr main quest. The big bad dragon has been defeated (though poor Tharn) and it seems there’s just a wrap up quest to do.

Then I decided to watch The Vast Of Night cause I heard good things on twitter but... I just didn’t vibe with it. It was just a bit blah for the most part and took awhile to get going. But the spaceship at the end looked impressive, I’ll give it that.

Today’s plan? Listen to The Magnus archives, try to catch more new bugs on animal crossing and hopefully read and write some later.
shadowhive: (Klaus Umbrella)
Today I ended up reading two chapters of Black Spire. I was probably hoping to read more but something about the prospect of Vi being tortured is just... ugh. It’s certain she’ll be rescued (since her appearance at Galaxy’s Edge is after the book) but I think it’ll take a few chapters at least.

I did nap and, when I woke, found that Naryu was curled up on me... but on my head. She really is a strange pup. She still walks along the small walls of front gardens as we walk now.

We had pizza this afternoon but the oven didn’t beep so it was... all burned and ugh. The rest was eatable but I just couldn’t eat the cheese. Sigh.

Roswell New Mexico continued tonight and it surprised me when Claudia Black turned up as Max and Isobel’s mum. I’m curious what will happen with Isobel now but I suspect it’ll be solved quickly. And Alex... he’s a badass confronting his asshole dad. (Also the second series is gonna be on as soon as the first one finishes which surprised me... though in doing so I caught a spoiler damnit!)

My ass of an uncle is, apparently, gonna get someone in to do the garage door on Friday though I’ll believe it when I see it.

So tonight after The Good Doctor I decided to start The Umbrella Academy rewatch with the first episode, so I’m gonna ramble on a bit about that.

You know I’d forgot just how good the series actually was. I remember last year, before the first trailer, I was really nervous about it. I loved the comics and I wasn’t sure if the adaption would do a good job. Then I saw the trailer and was instantly sold. And then it came to the series itself and I binged it over a weekend.

Everyone is just so perfect in their roles and the very first scene with them shows that so well. The intro scene shows five of the seven members of The Umbrella Academy in a montage and it just... perfectly captures them. The episode follows the comic in its own way, though it does tone down some of the weirder elements which is a little sad though it does make sense.

The chemistry between the Academy is what sells it, it has to because so much of the first episode is scenes with them together. You get a sense of the dynamics between them pretty much right away. (And of course there’s that dance sequence!). Five appears later than the rest and his introduction, and last scenes, are perfect. It must have been so hard to find the right person to play him (indeed I remember an interview that said he was the hardest of the seven to cast) and yet they found the right person. And then the reveal of Ben at the end is just perfect.

In shallow terms, Diego looks so hot in his outfit. As does Klaus in his dress. I was sold on Kliego from their interactions (I already shipped it in the comics) though you can easily see just how shippable he is with all of his brothers. There’s obviously the Ben connection (although there’s not much here of course as Ben is quiet and only in the very last scene) but there’s a sense with Luther too and then once Five appears there’s an instant thing.

I’m so gonna end up writing so much for season of kink with them. I’m not sure when I’m gonna watch episode 2, probably next week sometime.

Anyway, now I’m watching the Monterey bay stream.
