So before I go into Who thoughts, there’s a few other things first.
The bag came about an hour after the last post, just as mum was going to leave. The box was a lot to be desired. It looked like it had been knocked about and sat on, but the bag inside was fine so... mum seems happy with it, but I don’t see the point. I just gotta figure out how to balance everything out.
Mum’s also feeling a bit rough. I hope it’ll pass soon. She just needs to rest I think.
I finished Pirate’s Price today and the last story was so funny! It involved Hondo and the porgs on the falcon and it just made me giggle at their antics. The resolution in the epilogue was nice too, tying everything together. Tomorrow I’m gonna start Black Spire (which is set on Batuu, which is where part of Price was set and is also the theme park at Disney).
I’ve almost done with season 1 of Magnus Archives. I finished episodes 38 and 39, where everything kicks off. Alas I didn’t have time this morning to listen to 40, but I will soon.
The first Pokemon masters event started today, though it’s odd. There’s missions for it, but no sign how to do them (it says complete x level, but I’ve done all the levels for it so I’m confused...).
I did a little more writing last night too so maybe the spark is coming back. We’ll see.
Anyway, onto the Who part of the post. Before I go into the ramble about the episode, there was news this morning. Another blu ray collection got announced and this time it’s season 26, which is the 7th Doctor’s last season so I’ve preordered that. I have to say I’ve not seen 7’s eps in quite awhile so I only have the vaguest memory of most of them (though the Whoniverse book has covered some of them). It comes out around Christmas, which I think is an odd time (it comes out the Monday before it).
Anyway, the episode last night was Meglos, which could be known as ‘the one with the cactus’. A cactus like alien ends up pretending to be the doctor, in order to steal a power source from an alien race.
With an episode like this, it’s dependant on how well the doctor’s actor can portray a villainous version of himself. Thankfully Tom Baker succeeded in it, playing Meglos with suitable menace as he tricked the people into giving him access to the power source.
As an episode it was pretty good. Romana was smart, tricking the pirates that helped Meglos into an area of alien plants. The time loop at the start was something that could have been featured in a newer episode though their solution to escaping it was surprising. Poor K9 though, after being repaired at the start after the last episode’s impromptu trip into the sea, now his batteries run out quicker. It was also nice to see one of the original Who actors back in a different role, the actress that played one of the first companions Barbara.
The ending was mostly nice too, with the Doctor pretending to be Meglos to trick the pirates and messing up his machine (plus there was the opening for said cactus to return again, not that he has). However the Tigellans don’t fare so well. Sure their planet got saved, but they lost their sole power source and now have to survive of the hostile surface of their planet. Sure it wasn’t the Doctor’s fault, but he didn’t even try and help which felt odd.
Next week is Full Circle, the start of the E-Space trilogy and introduction to Adric. (Who I do like.)
Gonna continue with a The Flash and Supergirl tonight, the seasons finish this week on pick then next week is Maguyver which looks pretty good. It is surprising though that pick advertised it as being superhero summer, with the flash, Supergirl and the legends but... there was no new Legends eps. Stillthe eps have been pretty good, though I hate Devoe and love Brainy.
