shadowhive: (Leonecest Sat and laying)
So for the first few days I’ve done a regular post along with my answer to the day’s snowflake challenge, but because today’s has been posted early I’m just going to do that it seperate and maybe do a regular post sometime later. (I am hoping to get the fic done today though!)

Day 5

In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Well first off aim going to start by promoting [community profile] bandom_holidays even though the challenge is ended at the moment (and it’s just gonna be the reveal post in five days). I signed up for the challenge in November for the first time and, well, I was a little unsure how it would go. There was a time back on lj that I’d do a post offering to do Christmas fic for people, because that’s what I do. I love writing stuff for people. (And it means if it’s a gift there’s one guaranteed reader). However over the years people went their seperate ways and I was only left with one person that I wrote for. I’d write her something, she’d write me something. Last year though, she ditched me and I had no one to write for. I knew that I would get antsy if I had nothing to do, so when I heard about it, I signed right up. I was really looking forward to it to, having someone do me a fic in return even though it would (likely) be a stranger.

I got the prompt for me to fill in December and I was instantly inspired. I won’t say more about it until the reveal, but I had an idea for what I wanted right away and just had to get it out. I had it done and posted weeks before the deadline and I was so eager to see if the person liked it. The collection went live on the 1st and it’s here there are 18 fan works in total and I did two (the one I was assigned and a pinch hit). I’ve spent the week reading them and they’ve all been great so far (there’s three left to read which I’ll do this weekend).

I loved doing it and I hope that to enter the next one too. If anyone knows similar things that run through the year, let me know.

My reason for creating this dreamwidth was to join [community profile] kink_bingo and, until I properly moved everything over here in 2017 it was the only thing I’d got here. Alas the year I did it was the last one, so I’m not going to rec it (and looking at it recently, it’s sad because a lot of the links to stuff are dead). Instead I’ll link to a new think that I found out about a few days ago, called [community profile] seasonofkink. The main challenge operates in a similar manner from the looks of it so I’ll definitely join it. There’s a smaller challenge going on right now, to create a fic with at least three kinks in it. The fic I’m working on now is gonna be posted there as part of that challenge.

The next blog I’m gonna promote here is completely different. It’s called [personal profile] gffa. I discovered them on tumblr, but due to tumblr’s fuckery they set up an account here which I find is easier to interact with them. Basically they post meta stuff and thoughts about Star Wars, with a focus on the comics. Star Wars is one of my biggest permenant loves, so I just adore it. Here means we can have a proper comment discussion about it which is easier than tumblr and I love. The latest post is about the recent Age Of Republic issues, which I’m going to reply to when I read them (which should be today if they arrive).

Now I know the challenge says three, but I’m gonna do at least a few other things too.

From twitter I’m gonna promote GWayFUN which is a twitter account about Gerard Way. They’re so nice and friendly and have managed to make a community together. The flailing when the Umbrella Academy trailer was finally released was glorious.

I’m also gonna share a link to Ezra Blake’s Twitter. I discovered them a few months back when I searched for my username (which I thought would be a big mistake). Instead I found his twitter and someone mentioned his upcoming novel reminded them of some stuff I did ages ago. Intruiged I reached out and we ended up having a few conversations. I have part of one saved, because it led me back into writing again at a time when I was sure that I wouldn’t. He’s posted a copy of his novel as a pdf, just be sure to heed the warnings. (I still need to read my copy but the darkening days of winter made reading a physical book difficult, sorry!)

I’m going to share a few podcasts too, since they count as platforms right?

First is Welcome to Night Vale which is the one I’m sure a load of people have heard of. I heard of it when it got hyped up on tumblr years back and decided to give it a listen. It’s helped me through a lot of stuff. It’s set in the fictional town of a Night Vale, which is an epicentre for every weird thing you could imagine (and a few you wouldn’t have even thought of). It’s narrated by Cecil, the community’s radio host and it’s just, amazing.

Second is a new podcast, called Dreamboy It’s produced by Night a Vale presents (set up by the guys that did Night Vale) and it is just so... weird, but in a completely different way. The main character is a gay guy and it’s unapologetically erotic as well as strange. They recently did a Christmas special, which will make you unable to hear come all ye faithful in the same way again.

Lastly is Sappenin podcast. It was started last month by Sean Smith, who was the joint lead singer of The Blackout. The guys from The Blackout were always awesome and friendly (and Welsh!) so I was so sad when they split several years ago (when it felt like every band was breaking up). The first two episodes are just about him and the band, but every other week since they have had a new guest on. The best one so far was Dougie from Mcfly last week. I’m hoping that they’ll get Jay from Bullet on, so I’ll finally know what happened to him. (They are going to get Moose from Bullet on soon, though when is unclear.) but yeah, it’s fun and funny and they make me smile (and nostalgic for the days I’d go to gigs a lot). I’ve not heard the latest cause YMAS.

Anyway, I’m gonna wait to see if my comics come, then take a Naryu for her walk and spend the day watching stuff, reading and ficcing.

So I saw that [personal profile] kat_lair posted their fic round up this morning and I considered nabbing it. At first I was gonna leave the first half of last year out altogether and just focus on the second half (after the [community profile] bandom_holidays reveal). But as I was walking Naryu I realised it might be better for me to post the first half as well and keep them separate.

So here it is. This is the first half of the round up, from Jan-May and it’s gonna probably include a lot more feels than I otherwise would include in a public post, but ah well. Everything is behind the cut, with the fic links copied from my master list. (Doing this has a good side, it made me realise I’d missed two fic from the masterlist)

Ok that wasn’t quite as bad as I expected, surprisingly. Part 2 should be next week and it will be much less emo.

If you guys happen to read any of the, please leave a comment that’d be great!
