So this is my thoughts post on Star Wars Episode IX. Note there will be spoilers behind the cut.

So I just got back from the midnight showing and it’s 3:20am. Since I left the cinema my mind has been pondering my thoughts on it. Honestly, at the moment I’m not sure. I think I’ll need to think on it more before deciding.

(A quote from the Simpsons sums it up. ‘Is it a good ending or a bad ending?’)

So let’s do the good things first.

I loved that they managed to fit Leia in as much as they did. They had more of her than I expected which is good. Though of course she died, which I felt was inevitable (being limited by what they had meant that they had to).

Lando being back was awesome! I’d love to see more of him (he needed to be in it more).

Generals Poe and Finn! I loved that so much! I wish their relationship had been acknowledged though. I still wished they’d kissed.

In a similar vein we got a same sex kiss towards the end! It was nice, but still in the background (though clear enough to be seen.

Babu frick is so adorable and I’m glad he lived. D-O is pretty cute too though they’re not as linked as I thought.

I liked that Hux turned out to be a Resistance spy out of spite, though he should have stayed longer in the film. He shoulda gone with them. His role was replaced with Pryde, like people expected. However they did make it make sense. Pryde served Palpatine in the civil war so his allegiance was to him.

Palpatine is one of the things that’s... well. His appearance raises so many questions. To be honest? I’d have preferred he stayed dead. They should’ve let Kylo be the main villain of the film, instead of bringing Palpatine back (and ugh star destroyers with super lasers? And why did he wait in hiding for so long?)

Exactly when was Poe a spice runner? He was in the new republic before he joined the resistance so.... was he undercover? That just felt odd.

John Williams cameo!

I liked the ships that came and answered the call. The galaxy must be sick of having their planets threatened with destruction. It was nice to see Wedge back too though it all felt a bit... short? Maybe that could be extended.

I liked that Ach-to appeared again and the Jedi voices (even though that bit felt long).

The idea of a stormtrooper rebellion is a good one and I wish it had been explored a bit more fully.

I liked the last scenes that showed other worlds (like ROTJ) though would it have killed them to have one prequel world in there? It’s meant to be the end of the saga so Naboo or Coruscant would have been nice. I bet the blu ray will have one if they do an extended version (I hope they do)

I did like the last scene, it was nice. And the whole Leia having a saber was nice too

I’m sure there’s plenty of stuff I’ve forgotten and will surely come to me later. But yeah
