Well last night I didn’t end up doing much. I showered, wrote a little and then got really tired so went to bed pretty early. (And got lots of cuddles from Naryu.)

This morning I did some uni reading and then came down to find my comics had come, yay! I’ve not read them yet (I find it ironic that the latest Umbrella Academy comic came on the day of the series starting). Though I realised I’d accidentally got the age of republic special a few times. Ok 4 times. I got mixed up causa the variants ok?

(So I got Han Imperial Cadet 2, Age Of Republic special x4, the Dooku and Jango age of republics and umbrella academy Hotel Oblivion 5.)

After walking Naryu (and posting the card for

turps) though, we got to watching The Umbrella Academy. I was gonna watch Discovery first but, eh it can wait for once. So far I have watched episodes 1-3 so my thoughts are under the cut. (The plan is to watch them over the weekend in the afternoons though we’ll see)

Ok if you are under the cut now I assume you have seen the first episodes because there will be spoilers.

First off, I love the series so far. Everyone seems to get their characters so well and the whole look and music is great.

An interesting thing I’ve noticed is that their code names from the comics (spaceboy, kraken etc) haven’t been mentioned yet, just their names and numbers. (Although Allison’s power is referred to as ‘her rumour thing’.) also, as of yet, Klaus hasn’t done any floating yet.

Speaking of Klaus he is my absolute favourite (but I knew he would be). So far he has wore a skirt, made quips, been tied up... and he’s said he had a boyfriend! He was talking to five about relationships and he mentioned his longest one was three weeks with a guy that made osso boccos (whatever that is?) but ahh! They was awesome. And I loved that at the end of the first ep he just invited himself to go with Diego. (I also love Klaus’ theme 🖤)

Plus he is being haunted by (major spoiler, though it was in the metro article) Ben! It was awesome to see him, since he was never really in the comics apart from in flashbacks (and even then not much). I’m sure it’s going to fuel Ben/Klaus shippers (which there always seemed to be a lot of?)

As for the others, since I can’t just squee over Klaus the whole time, well it’s best that I handle them individually.

I loved Luther on the moon because he has a planty! (Unfortunately there’s not the awesome visual from the comic of the Eiffel Tower up there, I guess it would have required an explanation). I love that he’s just kinda... blundering along, that he’s said the wrong things but ultimately means well. And the reveal of his body at the end of episode 3 was well done I think.

I loved that Diego is more hands on and his knife throwing skills are awesome. His intro clearly shows you what he’s all about, but it’s clear that he’s not uncaring. He does care, especially about his mom. He takes the monocle and discards it for her and when he realised what he has to do... I got teary. It’s very hard to make me get like that and yet I did.

In the comics there’s not much details about Allison’s divorce and yet her we got the reason why. And it’s... wow. Using her powers on her daughter? I mean I get why (like she says anyone would probably have done it) but it seems once she started she couldn’t stop. That’s a detail, as awful as it is, that I actually really like.

Number five, I love how snarky he is and the scene in the donut shop, that was brutal. Not quite as much as in the comic but it showed how much he could kick ass.

Lastly there’s Vanya, I’m glad that she’s not quite the outcast she was in the comics, that she was at the funeral and five came to her. It’s clear she cared for him. And the opening of episode three, showing her doing the book and the others reaction to it, that was great. I’m suspicious about her student, but that’s because I’ve read the comics and keep waiting for her to get recruited.

But ahh there’s so much to love about the series so far. It’s interesting how it’s mostly Apocalypse Suite but with Hazel and Cha Cha thrown in their storyline seems to be playing out here. And I wonder if the papers Klaus threw out will come back to bite them?

I can’t wait to find out what will happen over the next few days,
