Fist my bump!
Mar. 20th, 2026 10:06 pmThe last few days my focus has again been off, mostly because of the damn sawing/drilling outside starting up again. (When will it end?) along with post gig tiredness,
Last night I did end up watching Ready Or Not cause of the sequel being out. What amused me though was I got the blu ray cause it wasn’t available anywhere (and discounted) but then last night I found it was both on tv (on film 4) as well as on Disney+. Ah well.
I did enjoy it though, it was mostly a fun time with incompetent rich people getting outsmarted and dying. I. Hopefully I can see the new one soon, though I’m not sure when (causa Megacon then 5sos). I did consider seeing it today as my usual two film thing but decided not to.
Today I went to see Project Hail Mary. I was gonna go in the morning to avoid more sawing, but I woke later than expected (15 minutes before I’d have had to leave) and just didn’t feel up to going right away. I was thinking of just going another morning, but did decide to see it on the second showing (part to get out cause I got riled up by mum being bitchy).
Trailers were mostly films I’d already decided I’m seeing: The Odyssey, The Mandalorian And Grogu, Super Mario Galaxy, plus a Supergirl one which I’d not seen. There was also a Hunger Games trailer and, bar going ‘is that him from the Long Walk?’ I’m eh about it. I’ve not seen the films and I dunno how they’ve gone on so long. But then again maybe if I saw them I’d see why? I dunno.
Anyway!
Before I go into thoughts, beware these will be slightly spoilery, especially since this is a new film (but I’m trying to keep it just with stuff seen in trailers). But! BeforeI get to thoughts I’ll simply say this: if you’re thinking of going to see this, go see it. I know it’s long (over 2 and a half hours) but it is so worth it.
Honestly it’s one of those films that’ll be the top ones of the year (joining Iron Lung, Cold Storage and Kangaroo).
But onto thoughts, which are under this.

Since I first saw the trailers, I had been interested in the film. Mostly cause I’m a sucker for movies set in space and this did feature a cool looking spaceship. The more I saw the trailer, and the more trailers I saw, the more I was interested in it. Cause there’s an alien spaceship, and a cute lil guy! What’s not to love?
I did assume from the trailers that it’d be split into two parts: an opening act set on earth, leading up to the launch of the Hail Mary spaceship, with the rest of the film about its journey. instead it started on the ship with the astronaut, Grace, waking up and trying to work out where he was and why he’s there. The parts back on earth are thusly flashbacks as he gets his memories back, showing how he was recruited and working on the Hail Mary Project.
Honestly I think this is a great way to tell the story as it makes you wonder exactly how Grace got there.
The scenes set in space reminded me a little (funnily) of Iron Lung as it’s one character in one location (albeit a bigger one) and honestly it shows Ryan Gosling’s skills that he makes it engaging. Like Markiplier in Iron Lung, you want to spend this time with this character, even though he’s alone for a large part of the space scenes.
Thay is until he’s joined by an alien, dubbed Rocky, who has undergone a similar trip as Grace for the same reasons. Together they form a relationship, one that forms the core of the film. I wanna see the making of/behind the scenes of this film because Rocky is mostly a puppet, made by guys who make aliens in Star Wars, so he is physically there and you can feel that.
I’m not gonna lie, I love Rocky so much. There were a few times throughout that he made me teary. Yeah this alien, that didn’t look even remotely human made me almost cry with the things he did. That’s something special right there.
I’m not gonna say too much more on the story, but it’s so incredible. It’s pretty, it’s fun, it’s touching, parts are surprising, parts made me sad, parts made me smile so big and gasp. It’s one of those films that I can’t even think of any flaws to it.
(I’m sure I have many more thoughts but I don’t wanna spoil it)
Gonna snug now, then tomorrow it’s the seapeekay randomathon tomorrow. I might do a music post but we’ll see if my brain can fic some too.

Date: 2026-03-23 02:22 pm (UTC)Oh that sounds fun! I hope you have a good time! How is the book? Ha that’s wild! I can see why they switched it up for the film but that’s so funny😂
Oh! Also! I know you mentioned once (months back I think) that you were hoping for a physical release for stranger things? Well one is coming in July (it’s blu ray and 4k though, so I dunno if that’s watchable for you)

Date: 2026-03-23 05:17 pm (UTC)Y'know, I wasn't even thinking about the fact that the whole family is dead, but that is also true! I haven't watched the trailer, but what I think could be interesting is seeing a different game played out with horror implications. That would be a cool way to do a franchise!
I liked it fine, but I was getting lost in all the physics stuff. There's a lot of problem solving I sort of skimmed over. My dad loves this author, has read all of his books, so he was very into that stuff.
Aw man. Of course it's BluRay and 4k. If it's only that, I can't watch it. BUT if they also release a standard DVD, I can watch that. I'm hoping they'll put out a box set with all five season. The first two are out already, they just never did the others.

Yeah, it’s a full collectors boxset of the whole show, but only those formats. I don’t think the company doing it even does dvds which is a shame (but it’s nice it’s an indie label doing it).

Date: 2026-03-24 01:29 am (UTC)To be fair, you don't have to be able to follow the technical stuff to follow the story, but there are chunks that are like, "Wait! If I apply the phlebotenum to this particular and reverse the polarity by umpty parsecs, the reaction will trigger a 'spolsion, and we'll make the ship go faster!" I don't know what have the words mean, but "make ship go faster" is the part that matters. Does that make sense?
I'll see what I can find out. This does seem to be a collector's special edition, which I don't really need--I just need to see Eddie again without resubscribing to Netflix.

Yeah the company has to versions each format, one with just the series (and a booklet I think?) and a ‘deluxe’ one which has a few bonus things too. That's fair though, we love Eddie💜
