It definitely feels like summer now, it’s gonna really sunny and warm which is… odd after the recent greyness. It didn’t help when I had to go to Home Bargains yesterday, mostly looking for food for the cats… which they didn’t have, but I ended up getting a few other things and it was heavy and one of the bags I’d picked up had a bad handle so… ugh. I did get a lil Lego set, not the one I hoped to pick up, it was a Lego movie 2 set that was real cheap. The banana guy in it is the best part. Maybe I should watch it again, I’ve only seen it once.

After that we mostly just watched Castle in the afternoon and then I dozed. I wanted to read but… was just so tired.

I did do another arc on Valhalla this weekend and finally dealt with Fulke, but now Sigurd seems… even madder than he was before. Which, ok is understandable but still. I did mean to do more things for the may gamerscore thing but Valhalla took focus oops. The goal the next few days is to do some ESO stuff before the expaion comes next week.

I did have a book from Amazon come Sunday (and one Saturday) and it’s an lgbt one called Not Quite Out… but when it came the package was already ripped open the whole length. The book was fine but still…

The warm has meant I’m awake early and can’t settle which is annoying. I might put on a podcast or something though after this. We’ll see.

So it’s the start of the June something that [personal profile] squidgiepdx does and he’s the first one. I admit I worked on most of it the other day and it’s kinda rambly

Day 1: What's changed about your fandom life in the last 365 days?

It’s definitely diminished.

I mean first off, the last year has been *gestures*. There’s been a pandemic and lockdowns which has meant there’s been no in person events or concerts. Not that I’m a person that goes to many in person things but it’s been… more isolating. The many fandom things I did was going to a nintendo group, but those went out the window as soon as lockdown started.

I was gonna go to a Set It Off gig, but that got pushed back (several times and it’s now next year). I still need to get a ticket booked. Same with Night vale (though I’m not sure what’s happening there).

But there’s also the other, more general fandom trend that’s continued, that’s been happening the last few years. And that’s random just isn’t as fun as it used to be.

I entered fandom back in the lj days and back then there were simple unspoken rules that everyone followed. Stuff like don’t like, don’t read. It allowed people to co-exist and there wasn’t major bitchiness over ships or kinks or whatever. But over recent years fandom has become unfriendly. People will viciously attack each other, especially over what are deemed ‘problematic ships’ (a term I intensely dislike) and just… the harassment and bitching and slander. It’s awful. Fandoms that used to be welcome and opening about ships have become closed off (especially if you ship ‘that’ ship) and it’s just…. Ugh.

Antis and teens and puritans are really ruining fandom.

And it’s not just shipping either, bullying seems to be a lot more common in so many fandoms. You can’t like a specific film/show/character without getting people harassing you over it. It’s just… awful.

I mean when you’ve got fandoms like Supernatural (which had an incest ship from the start) and Hannibal (where one of the main characters is a literal cannibal) with antis then what hope is there for the rest of us?

And that’s not even talking about my own personal experience with parts of fandom, which is a nightmare that keeps coming back. But that’s another thing entirely.

I mean there are definitely still good parts to fandom, good people making good content and being awesome… it just feels harder to find them now, and that’s just… so sad.
