But in your case, it just means death
Jan. 26th, 2025 08:32 pmAnother slight fandom post. (Before I finish fic and then reply to comments later)
So last night I did end up watching a film, Tarot. It’s a film that had been on my radar for awhile even though I’d not seen a trailer. That’s cause the monsters were designed by Trevor Henderson so I was immediately interested. I think that was part of the reason I didn’t watch trailers, not wanting to be spoiled by them.
I was hunting it down but had no luck getting it, then when I saw Smile 2 I got an Amazon digital code from a selection of films and since Tarot was one I got it. So it’s been sitting there for about two months or something. (Like with so many things stress has meant I’ve not been in the mindset to watch things in general)
But finally I decided to watch it last night and… it was ok, which was a bit disappointing.
Really it’s a standard horror plot: a group of friends (who maybe late teens or early 20s) are staying at a house, they find something strange (in this case as the title implies a tarot deck) and they mess with it, unleashing a curse in the process.
The problems are the usual things in films of this kind. The characters aren’t developed too well (I read on tv tropes two were a couple but that wasn’t made clear at all) and they did some incredibly stupid things (one is warned to surprse the instinct to run so… they run, one is told to avoid enclosed spaces so goes into an elevator). It doesn’t help that the film is also a 12 for some reason? If it was 15 it could be scorn, or with more than just a pair of blood splatters.
There’s also an old lady that survived a curse that killed her friends (that they just stumble onto??) and she somehow knows exact details of how it all started which just seemed so… how could that knowledge have been passed down so accurately when everyone involved died (and certainly the person that started wouldn’t leave a note saying ‘I did this, here’s how!’)
There are a few good things though. The creature designs are all really good, especially the Fool and the magician sequence was well done too. And the deck as a whole has some really creepy art. The concept itself is a good one too I just wish it could have been executed a bit better. (I also liked that, a rarity, there’s more than one survivor)
This morning the storm had come back so we stayed indoors. We ended up watching a Marple ep (A Caribbean Mystery which was pretty good) so now we only have one Marple left from the itv series before we’ve watched them all (cause we saw the middle one of the final series a few months back). Endless Night is next week then it’s done.
There was DND which was fun, though my brain was bad with thinking on numbers.
Then I watched the Nessie thing which was pretty good and it’s renewed my cryptozoology interest so now I wanna find other things on it.
I’m gonna do a lil bit of gaming after Pottery Throw Down, then maybe watch Spree (unless the storm messes with my head).
This week’s plans are:
*Finish the two ‘main fics’ before moving onto my WIPs and prompt stuff
*Get back to Indiana Jones (I wanna hit fascists with brooms again)
*More Stranger Things and The Rig (also maybe Beacon 23 and Horrors Greatest)
*tv stuff (Silent Witness, Father Brown, Death In Paradise, Masked Singer)
*finally get round to sorting icons
*Read the Cult Of The Lamb graphic novel
*Start ABC Murders
*Back to Alan Wake II
*The trip to Birmingham for Murder On The Orient Express at the theater
I feel I’m also missing stuff, but those are the main things that have come to mind.
