Song Saturday - The Blackout
Feb. 28th, 2021 01:39 amSo last week I missed song Saturday and I debated doubling up for today but at the end decided not to. Onward to today’s song, The Blackout - Save Ourselves (The Warning)
The video itself is a bit strange, set in a hedge maze and, for some reason there’s girls milling around with sugar skull make up, Sean has a cane and Rhys is doing... I dunno what (is that clay?). It’s mostly a performance video though, with some weird thrown in.
But onto the band itself. The Blackout were (because alas the band split awhile ago) a band from South Wales. With six members they were unusual in that they had two singers, Sean (the blonde one) and Gavin. They bounce off each other pretty well and they were always hilarious to see live.
I first saw them at Give It A Name in Manchester pretty early in there career. At the time I had no idea who they were (I went to Give It A Name for Lostprophets, MCR and Panic!) but their performance left an impression on me, so much so I tracked down their ep. Since them they have become my most seen band (I must’ve seen them over 10 times, though I’m not sure how many) this was partly intentional (seeing them at their own gigs) but also there was a funny thing where they’d get added to gigs late as support acts (once for lostprophets, once for one of the Kerrang tours). I’ve even seen them multiple times on the same tour, which I’ve only done for one other band, MCR.
I’ve met them a few times too, at signings and after shows and they recognised me cause of being used to seeing me (and Saur too, who I saw them with a lot). They were definitely one of the best bands to see live, because their energy was infectious (and they were funny). Watching them, and listening to them as I write this, makes me realise just how much I miss those Welsh divs.
Two of the band, Sean and Bob, have since formed a new band Raiders, and I need to listen to their stuff some more.

In other news today has been a mostly lazy day, since I mentioned Castle was on Disney + so we watched it (and watched all of season 1 and the first ep of 2). I also did some ESO for the event and some Valhalla (damn those light puzzles). I watched a thing last night about a find of a Viking longship and it made me want to go back on it. It’s amazing the craftsmanship that they had, as well as how well preserved it was.
I am feeling more like myself again. I’m not there fully, but better than I was. Maybe it’s the sunshine and being able to go further on the walks or maybe it’s something else. I dunno,
