Happy new year!
Jan. 1st, 2019 03:09 pmHappy new year everyone! I’m glad the beast of 2018 has at last been slain. My night last night wasn’t too exciting. It was spent mostly watching tv and having Buck’s Fizz. I ended up watching a Ghost Stories on Netflix too which wasn’t too great really.
During the day we went to sainsburys to get some bits and lj got the Lego fantastic beasts suitcase from Argos. The creatures are so pretty and it really holds up and is secure. We also got the guinea pig some food and mum’s meds (alas mine weren’t there ugh).
I had the gift from Lego come too, though it wasn’t exciting. A luggage tag, one of the collectible minifigs and a Finn key ring. Still it was nice of them.
On twitter I made new year’s resolutions to:
*Write more
*Read more
*Go to more gigs
The
bandom_holidays fics are up! Go and give them a look! So far I’ve only read the one for me but I’m gonna read some of the others soon. It’s been ages since someone’s done me a fic so I was so glad to finally have one to read. I wasn’t sure what to expect since I’d given a few suggestions, but ahh!
I’ll post what I did once they’ve all been revealed, which I think is the 10th.
Other than fic today has gone well so far as I found a new band on twitter (or rather they found me) called Florence Black and they have curly haired Welshmen! Which has been my dream to find them.
Since it’s now 2019 I listened to Danger Days this morning and wore my Party Poison jacket (though it’s pretty worn now). I need to dye my hair again soon. I’ll likely do a Killjoys fic soon so if anyone has request...
The snowflake challenge has started up today, so I’m going to be doing a daily post for it for the next 15 days!
So to anyone coming from there, hi! I mostly write band fic and I’ve currently defaulted back to writing MCR mostly. I really hope, through this challenge to meet people interested in Welsh bands (especially Bullet For My Valentine), Motionless In White or just a few more MCR people! If you have any questions, let me know and there’s a fic request post pinned on my page (and a masterlist).
So let’s get onto the challenge!
Day 1
In your own space, talk about your Happy Place—the things that give you joy, calms you or keeps you sane. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
Well that is an interesting question for day one. Let’s see if I can answer it.
Do I have a physical happy place? No not really. I don’t think ugh I do like snuggling in bed (and getting cuddles from my cats and puppy).
I like to write. I stopped last year for reasons I won’t go over but when I finally wrote again... it felt good, I love writing, even though most stuff I write is just porn. I love writing for other people and getting my stuff read and commented on. Nothing makes me happier than getting a comment on a fic, no matter how old. It’s something that is... lacking on AO3, which is a shame. Comments make me happier than hit counts or kudos do.
Whenever I get sad, I often go back and read fics that people have done for me. Alas I wasn’t able to do that for some this year (for the same reason alluded to above) but I did reread ones done by aerogroupie (alas their stuff is friends-locked) and fastbetty on lj. Late in the year I did an mcr fic binge too, rereading random stuff back on lj when I could (and lamenting that so many people and fics has just been deleted).
I often do some gaming to help distract myself. Usually that involves going on the Xbox and finding a random game, usually an indie one, but also Elder Scrolls Online or Assassins Creed. If I’m in a writing mood (or two tired to game), I’ll go on Netflix and find some series to watch. Thankfully 2018 produced a lot of good shows for Netflix and they have a lot of older stuff too.
I usually try and read too, I’ve been working on the new canon Star Wars books, which I enjoy but with the night’s getting dark due to winter, it’s been hard to do so. I started a new book called Claustrphilia but failed at getting far due to the darks. I also read comics, again most Star Wars but also Umbrella Academy. I’m so excited for the tv series of it.
One thing that makes me happy is music (which I’ll get to later) and listening to Welcome To Night Vale on Spotify. Night Vale is so awesome and the new series, Good Morning Night Vale is fun too and has given me an excuse to resistencia (which has given me more appreciation to certain parts).
When I write it’s mostly done on my iPad now, which took some getting used to. I usually write while having something on tv in the background, though sometimes I have music on. I’ve been listening to Coheed And Cambria on Spotify a lot lately, because I just got into them recently. I’ve also been listening to The Blackout and MCR too.
...wow, that ended up being a ramble, much longer than I expected. Oops, hee

Date: 2019-01-01 05:14 pm (UTC)I like your resolutions. I really need to write more too. Last year was my worst in ages in terms of word count as I just wasn't feeling it. Thankfully bandom holidays has kickstarted things, so hopefully that continues.
I liked your snowflake ramble, and after all, that's what the challenge is about, being able to talk about yourself.
Being so creative is a wonderful thing, so I'm glad you're back to enjoying it so much.

Date: 2019-01-02 12:53 am (UTC)Hello fellow bandom person :) *waves* I fall more FOB than MCR at the moment (although I actually mostly end up writing Mikey, so *hands* :)). I am with you on the comments thing - giving and getting comments on fic is how I built my original fandom home, and kudos aren't quite the same for me (although sometimes a kudos is all my brain can do, right enough) - I miss journalling fic-fandom days.
