Hell is a carousel unicorn
May. 9th, 2021 12:22 pmYesterday ended up being a pretty lazy day, mostly with Castle on. I did get to the library at last on The Longing, which only took about a month of waiting for an area of water to fill up.
I did some Valhalla but just a few random things mostly (though I did kill an order person) though ugh, what is with being unable to finish anomaly’s? It’s so annoying to get almost to the end and then not being able to jump. It happens at the same sorts of places too, when I’m on one of those thin bars and it just… won’t let me jump up to higher blocks. (Despite it being what you’re supposed to do from vids)
I did win a game from a stream called The Colonists which I’m gonna try tonight. It looks pretty cute, a city builder type game with cute lil robots though there was an issue with the code being put in the chat instead of being sent to me and someone else nabbed it (though I was sorted with a replacement which yay!)
Things I forgot to post in the last post
*It seems for the rest of the month Maxx is doing fewer streams (at least partly due to visiting home) so I might be able to game/watch more stuff.
*The second Bad Batch ep was Friday and was a surprising throwback (well someone worked out where they were going from the code in the first one). It’s sad seeing just how fast the Empire is becoming totalitarian, though not surprising sadly.
*Palaye decided to post this pic which is… such a cesty pic. If the fandom was half decent there’d be a titanic fic based on it (maybe someone is working on one?)
*Intergalactic seems interesting still, and there’s a cute pirate in it now. Though ugh I missed the opening. Damn digibox acting up
Today is likely gonna be another lazy day and I might game or watch something after Batwoman tonight,
The rest of the post is under the cut because it’s about CarousHELL which I watched last night. The short version: it’s 67 minutes of your life you will want back.
So a few posts back I mentioned how, when looking for potential spooky films to watch on Saturday, I saw a film on amazon called CarousHELL. The premise sounded ridiculous, about a carousel unicorn going on a rampage and since it was 67 minutes with an average rating of 4 1/2 stars I figured it must be alright. Those people must have watched something else. (I also think after watching Slaxx which had a ridiculous premise but was done right, I was hopeful for this one)
Virtually everything about this film is bad. The ‘acting’ of the people in the first scene is more wooden than the carousel horses and the rest of the characters are pretty much worse from there. They’re unsympathetic, annoying and irritating. I mean one character keeps saying hashtag all the time.
Most of the film was taking up with a party and I get it was done to get us to know the human characters but it just made me hate them and killed the momentum (and the unicorn said twice! ‘How am I going to get in here’ before eventually Trojan horsing himself in)
The effects alternate. In one of the first scenes the unicorn moves towards a guy (the only time it’s scene moving this way thankfully) and it looks so bad. You know those pop up books were you pull a tab and a thing moves across the page statically? That’s how it moved. On the other hand the special effects for the gore fared mostly better, although even then some was dodgy towards the end.
As for the methods of death some made sense, being stabbed by the unicorns horn or being trampled with his hooves, but others were just…. strange. One person died by throwing stars. Another died with arrow. One of the last ones got killed by laser beam eyes. It didn’t make sense.
The plot was also strange. This wasn’t some unicorn that suddenly came to life, it was ALWAYS alive and suddenly decided to go on a rampage. There was even a guy at the amusement park that knew this could happen and had a gun ready to kill it (which was hidden in a suitcase…. In a kids ball pit, unlocked). And it it was just very ????
Even after all that, they were three good elements to it that I liked. The guy that voiced the unicorn was easily the best of all the actors in it by some margin. During the party a pizza guy arrived and he was easily the most sympathetic character there. He just wanted to get paid for the pizza’s damnit. He was the most relatable character, being a bit clueless of pizza puns, not realising he was being flirted with and then saying to one person asking for a phone ‘but you’re holding one’. The last good point was that there was a consensual sibling incest couple, which was a surprise. It seemed to be just implied from a comment, but then they played never have I ever and yeah, it was confirmed. And then they made out later.
So yeah, I’ve watched it so you don’t have to. It’s 67 minutes of my life I really wished I had back (and please, I hope they don’t follow along the sequel hook it left at the end).
