Prompt 2: Orange
Orange is a warm color that is associated with a variety of things including: excitement, vitality, invincibility, speed, vigilance, dedication, loyalty, family, success, friendship, power, change, harvest, and warmth.
Vitality shows in not only the ability to persist but the ability to start over. — F. Scott Fitzgerald
Orange can be the warm sunrise after after the darkest night. It can be the bountiful harvest at the end of your hard work. When was a time where dedication and vigilance have reaped their rewards? What future harvests excite you?
Please feel free to answer in whichever way comes naturally to you, be it a memory you share or an artwork you create. If you’d like a more specific idea to kick things off: paint or share a picture that evokes the theme of orange.
Orange is, like mentioned in the first line, a warm colour. I associate it with fire, with sunsets, with the leaves changing in fall. There’s also oranges (which I’m not too keen on personally), carrots (which I like) and pumpkins (which I love). Pumpkins symbolise halloween to me as I’m sure they do for many. I always have pumpkin soup on Halloween (as well as watching Nightmare Before Christmas and Trick R Treat). I’m bad at growing pumpkins, because things usually eat the plants sadly. We’ve planted some recently, which to my surprise came with a sewing kit to make a pumpkin so it was my first sewing project, even though it ended up more like an orange and the panels didn’t stick (and then the pup grabbed it).
Fandom wise there’s only two that I can think of that have it in a significant way (which I’ll get to later). Most fandoms only seem to have orange in a more minor way. Doctor Who has only had orange as a main colour in two things, one of the new paradigm daleks (which I actually quite liked, I wish they’d been in it more) and in the sanctuary base space suit that the tenth Doctor often used.
In Zelda orange isn’t often used either. Red is used in the various representations of fire (there’s often the triumvirate of red, blue and green in Zelda) so the only real thing I can think of as being orange, other than pumpkins, is the spirit medallion from Ocarina Of Time.
Animal Crossing features orange in some of the villagers, as well as the hybrid flowers and for some of the animals that you can catch such as goldfish and koi. And, of course, there’s oranges.
One fandom that does feature orange prominently is pokemon. This is primarily seen in fire type Pokemon where charmander and torchic, as well as other starters, tend to be orange. Goldeen is also orange because it’s based on a goldfish. Dragonite is another Pokemon that’s orange, being a friendly dragon.
The main fandom that features orange though is Star Wars. From the films the most obvious use of orange comes from the flight suits used by the rebel alliance and resistance, which are bright orange. Both Poe and Luke have worn them in their respective trilogies. And then there’s BB-8 who has orange panelling on his white body. BB-8 is very much shaped like a friend and so is much loved. (I’ve got so many BB-8 things, figures, plushies, the big Lego version of him)
Away from the films there is Ahsoka Tano, Anakin’s padawan who appeared in the Clone Wars. At first people weren’t too sure about her (even the idea of Anakin having a padawan seemed strange) but she’s quickly established herself as a fan favourite character. In fact she’s one of the few Jedi that survived the Clone Wars, going on to appear in Rebels (and having an epic duel with Vader). And speaking of Rebels there’s also Chopper, the Ghost’s crew cantankerous droid who is so amusing throughout.
So yeah I’ve managed to ramble on about orange, more than I expected.
I have a theory about these colour prompts and that they’re going to be done in rainbow order, which means, if I’m right, that the next colour will be yellow. Let’s see if I’m right!

Yesterday ended up being kinda productive, in the sense I ended up watching films! I mentioned in my last post that I was going to watch Frozen 2 so I ended up watching it in the afternoon. I thought it was pretty good, although I don’t think there’s as many memorable songs compared to the first one (though I have into the unknown in my head and been listening to Panic!’s version a few times). I sensed that the dam was gonna be the cause of what happened the moment it came up. And I loved the lil fire lizard and the water horse.
I had a lil doze after it, then went to get some cheap stuff from the co-op. I wore my mask but I think I was the only one that did. It makes me feel safer despite it being a bit hot at times. I watched the brokenwood mysteries when I got back, which I started watching awhile back and just... kept watching. This week’s was ok, but nothing special really.
After that was the second film, Spiderman Far From Home which I got a few weeks ago from the food shop. I decided to save it cause mum wanted to watch infinity war/endgame so watched it yesterday. It’s pretty good and Ned really is the cutest. Though I still think calling the snap the ‘blip’ is an odd name, though I think it actually did a good job explaining the world after it in a few minutes. The post credit’s scenes raise further questions (and make it annoying that Spider-man’s next film is ages away) and what’s the deal with Fury in space?
I found out that Insidious The Last Key was on film4 and, since I’d not seen it, I decided to watch it. It was actually pretty good and there was a twist that I genuinely didn’t see coming. It’s kinda a shame that the last scene leads into the first because I’d have liked to see more of Elise, because she’s been really great in the series. (I wonder if Lin Shaye is in many other things, because she’s been great in these films)
Today’s plan is to go on Animal Crossing to get the scallop for Pascal and then, tonight, watch Knives Out, which I got Monday because I’d heard good things and the cinema here never shown it. I might try doing some gaming too since I’ve failed at it lately (or maybe Batwoman since I’ve still not caught up).
(I was gonna watch Blood And Treasure since it started a few weeks back but it seems to be absent from the scheldule thanks to damn football bah)
