United by music

Last night was the first Eurovision semi final! As always I went in completely blind (other than knowing Sweden sent Loreen) and it was such a strong selection of acts. There were only a handful I thought weren’t great (and, thankfully, didn’t get through)

Before voting I hoped that 7 countries would get through (Norway, Malta, Serbia, Croatia, Moldova, Sweden and Finland) and of them only one didn’t get through so I’m pleased by that. (Poor Malta thought they were fun.) I’m especially glad Croatia got through because they were the most wtf act of them all along with Iceland as a close second. I really love Moldova’s as it has such a nice vibe to it. And I loved all the others too, the variety was so great.

Also I love Ukrainian’s presenter who was wearing an awesome dress (black with flames) and she’s in a rock band too! They’re called The Hardkiss and I’ve got them on Spotify to look into later. The contrast of her next to Hannah Waddingham and her bright coloured (and very lovely) dress was nice.

The postcards this time are a nice idea, showing a place in Ukraine, in the uk and in the act’s country (and I did squee seeing Birmingham)

Here’s hoping the second semi final have strong entries too as that’s the one we get to vote in. (Plus it was nice to watch along with some people on discord!)

I did think about watching the rest of The Time Monster but was too unfocused and watched Ranboo’s stream instead.

The past few mornings I’m back to waking early again which is annoying. However it did mean I was able to start transferring music over to the replacement new pod thing. Not everything is on there yet by a long shot, but there’s Weathers, Waterparks, Set It Off and FOB among others. I’ll be transferring more again tomorrow morning.

Also this morning mail came in the form of the Las Nevadas merch at last (pics over on insta). The key looks nice, the pin is bigger than I expected and the dice are ok. However the highlight is the main thing the box with the full set of card decks. They’re so incredibly beautiful and the designs and colours on them really pop. I’m hard pressed to pick a favourite because all of them are so so pretty, I’m so glad that I got the full set because I honestly love them. (Though I do wish I’d got a wearable, alas the designs didn’t appeal but I wise I’d got a hat) I wonder if there’s a way I can display them nicely.

I can’t help be annoyed though about the customs fee which seems so excessive considering the package wasn’t big or particularly heavy. I coulda got a slime story plushie or the discounted Wilbur hoodie for the amount it cost! Bleh.

Also what came is the replacement Doctor Who magazine which is thankfully intact. I’ll have a proper look through soon (at least to see the 3rd and 4th Doctor poll results. However I can’t help but be curious about the recent Who teasers for the specials. People were thinking they were airing in November but there’s no way they’d be doing this much sneaky promo for something 6 months away. I hope there’s a date soon.

There’s still no sign of the Disney package and the email I got today seems to make out it’s been misplaced which… how? It’s not exactly going to be a small box so how have they lost it. It’s so infuriating.

On the plus side it meant I didn’t need to stay in so I was able to go see the ducks and the geese had six babies! They’re so cute and fluffy and I love them so much.

The weather though is very changeable and odd. One minute it’s sunny and warm the next it’s dark (and there was even less than a minute of rain when we were walking which is odd). If it stays ok I might head out quick and get something extra for Eurovision (we only had one bottle left over from Christmas/new year I thought we had more.

There’s also the new fall guys update which I might check soon and I wanna try and finish up Pokémon violet like I hoped (but I don’t see it happening).

Tonight I might watch The Time Monster (I might even restart it to watch all in one go) but that does depend if I get tired or distracted or anything else happens.

Like you know I really enjoyed the semi-final. And the postcards were great, and I liked how the linked the three countries together.

I was surprised at you answering comments so early, guess it explains it when you woke up so soon.

The Las Nevadas merch sounds fun, but I still can't believe the fee was so high.

Malta was fun and cute, I'm sad they didn't go through instead of Switzerland. It's a strong final so far, though!

Thank you for reminding me I wanted to look into The Hardkiss - and see if I still have those boots that would match Julia's dress, haha.

I also really like the posctards this year! Seeing similar places in each country is really cool.

Customs fees are so extortionate :(

You're only the second person on my flist into Eurovision. I love it. Both my partners and I get into it every year. Was hoping we would get it in Manchester this year but I'm pleased Liverpool got it after we lost out.

Always watch the semis. I loved Finland, Portugal, Croatia and Moldova. I personally wasn't keen on Serbia or Malta.

One thing I did notice is most of the men didn't seem able to project their voices, whereas some of the ladies were absolute belters. I know a lot of people going on about Sweden being likely winner but it didn't do it for me.

One thing I'm glad we didn't get this year were the godawful 'funny' short vids from Scott and Rylan. I love Rylan but cannot abide Scott Mills.

Anyway I did a foolish thing this year. I organised my bloody hen for Saturday night when the final is on which (a) means Canal Street and the gay village is going to be prohibitively expensive and (b) I won't see it live. They are showing it on big screens in the centre of Manchester, but its Manchester and likely to be raining.

Anyways looking forward to your thoughts on tomorrow's semi!
