Beyond our understanding

So after the last post the trip to get superglue was successful (despite almost losing my glasses lens in nettles on the way). The glue worked and has held since them, yipee! So I shouldn’t have it break (at least like that) again for awhile. And if I do, hey I’ve got superglue.

I went in the Game in the Sports Direct while I was down there and it was so odd. There weren’t prices on 90% of the things which was an odd choice. They didn’t have what I saw in the site anyway but it did feel so off putting.

That night I watched the first Eurovision semi final and it was pretty good, though it was a shame Croatia didn’t get through (it was one of the better songs) and my focus did get a bit off. The second semi final is tonight and we vote in it, so I’m gonna vote on… something and hope Isreal don’t get through.

Yesterday ended up being a town trip, but ugh beforehand was so stressful. Mum started an argument and we missed two of the earlier buses which was annoying and I almost didn’t go.

The trip was mostly to use a voucher at Lindt at the outlet store and we did that, getting some of the raspberry (which I’ve not tried) and pistachio boxes (plus two discounted things). But can someone explain what the deal is with ‘Dubai chocolate’ like what is that and why’s a bar of it twice the price (£10 compared to £4.50) of other bars?

The outlet other than that was a bit eh, I was unfocussed from the argument (and there’s not much there anyway) but at least we got churros. (And on the bus I started last months read Christie, the seven dials mystery.)

In town I got SFX from Morrisons (it’s a halfway to Halloween special) and the Lego Plum Blossom from B and M (which looks so pretty) and some cans of Stranegr Things drink which I’ll have when I (finally) finish season 4. (I promise I’ll get there!)

I came back, built some of the blossom, then went back to town for the cinema to see Sinners. (Thoughts under the cut)

Before I get into it itself let’s talk trailers, cause I didn’t with Thunderbolts. Sinners shared 3 trailers with Thunderbolts, Mission Impossible (looks good but I’ve not seen the others and fear I’d be lost), Jurassic World Rebirth (looks really good and I’ll definitely be seeing it) and Tron Ares (which again looks really good, it’s got Gillian Anderson and, according to wiki, Evan Peters?). There was also 28 years later which looks like it’d be good but was also eh kinda.

It is a bit of a shame that all of them were sequels and even the other two thunderbolts trailers (karate kid and Superman) were for existing things. It kinda felt glaring there wasn’t a standalone thing for some reason. (Maybe cause Sinners itself was it’s own thing).

But onto Sinners. I thought it was really good! I went in mostly blind (not even seeing a trailer, though now I’m curious what it was framed as in them) and it was mostly cause of word of mouth I was so interested. There was also more people in the cinema than I was expecting (about 10 of us total).

The opening half hourish was setting up, getting everyone together, establishing them and getting them to the venue but once they were there? Things really kicked off. Like I think the signature scene of the whole thing is when Sammie was playing in the joint and the ghosts of the past and future shown. Like honestly the visual of that felt so wild.

And speaking of visuals then did an incredible job of having Micheal B Jordan as twins because honestly it was seamless. Like I could easily have believed he had a secret twin bought in for this as opposed to him playing both of them himself it was so well done.

Also the sound work was really good, like at the start and there were scenes with bird song and crickets and stuff? It really made it sound it was coming from everywhere.

But yeah from that scene above it just went wild (in so many different) and did not stop until sunrise. (And even then there was a final scene with klan members getting killed which was perfect and deserved.) And I’m glad I knew about that mid credits scene because damn I feel that was such essential to the whole thing.

I feel I have so many thoughts. Like was the charismatic vampire genuine or just saying what he thought would get him what he wanted? Was he really drawn by the power of music or was he intending to kill everyone in there anyway? And those Indian vampire hunters that had only one scene were a neat touch too.

It also made me wanna do more late night cinema runs. Here’s hoping there’s another film over the summer I wanna see.

On the way back I spotted that there’s gonna be a horror market thing in town and I’m so intriguing but at the same time the timing is so bad. Like why’s it on a Sunday and in a few weeks? Apparently there is another one later in the year but not till just before my birthday. Maybe I’ll go visit it.

When I got back I just flopped and listened to a Who audio (The Carrionite Curse which was pretty good and all about using the power of a paradox to cause trouble) and then just flopped.

Today we went to see the ducks and while there were only three ducklings about (and one coot) there were new baby geese! There were five of them and they got really close and they were so smol and fluffy. Pics of the cuties are here

Then there was the last Andor eps and… damn. While it felt a tad subdued (theres no massacre or great space battle or anything) it did feel like a fitting culmination of the season and the series as a whole. So many people meet their fates and so much is set in motion for the events of Rogue One (which I’ll be watching again this weekend!)

And damn those last scenes…

I’m just glad some of my favs made it to the end and there weee so many amazing performances. I really hope it wins all the awards. (It has to win costume and actress awards surely)

(And I’m glad the black series Vel I got arrived in time for it. But now I do kinda want the new u-wing at some point.)

Now though I’m gonna flop a bit cause I’m tired for being out all day yesterday.

I'm glad you managed to fix your glasses and see Sinners!

I'm glad you got to see Sinners. Like I said to you, I enjoyed it a lot which surprised me as it's not my usual thing.

Trailer wise, it didn't give much away at all, which is unusual these days. In fact, I think I prefer it that way. I mean, as much as I loved Thunderbolts* by the time I'd seen the actual film I'd also seen multiple versions of the trailers so knew lots of scenes already.

And those Indian vampire hunters that had only one scene were a neat touch too.

I would have loved to know more about them. They seemed important, hinting at a big backstory, but we saw them in that one scene, then no more. Not that there was really any room to fit them in without the film being much longer.

And I’m glad I knew about that mid credits scene because damn I feel that was such essential to the whole thing.

YES! It's such an important scene and so many people missed it in my showing.
