Revenge of the fifth

So yesterday was Star Wars day and it was also free comic book day. I’m not sure when the last time that both coincided was but it was nice to have them both on the same day.

Since it was free comic book day this meant a trip to Birmingham, which can be busy and annoying but thankfully it wasn’t too bad until the end for the most part (and it seems I haven’t picked up anything this time).

First stop was the Forbidden Planet by the station. Birmingham has two of them oddly and, although they share a name, they’re both different which is odd. The one by the station lets you pick the comics but only 4. That was good though as it meant I could pick the main three I wanted (Star Wars, Doctor Who and Pokémon) and I also got one called Gannibals (I know nothing about it, but I’m assuming cannibals are involved). Alas the Young Jedi Adventures wasn’t around, but I expected that. From there I also got some Star Wars graphic novels cause there was an offer on. Battle of the Force was one I was hoping to get but I also got Crimson Regin and Dark Droids, though I think I’ll have to check if they’re a continuation of something before reading them cause I feel they are (especially dark droids cause there seems to be a few).

Then we went to the Lego store, in hopes I could get the make and take sets but alas they just finished with them. It was busy and hot so I didn’t get chance to look around, but I did get pics with a stormtrooper and Jawa they had there.

I stopped off in smiths, only intending to get the new Lego Star Wars magazine, but there was also a Doctor Who magazine special on the fourth Doctor which I didn’t know was out! I’ve only had a flick through but there’s an interview with Louise Jameson I’m gonna read (with Matthew Waterhouse oddly) which looks good. Plus there was a Zelda magazine I picked up too cause Zelda.

Next was the other Forbidden planet which gives oht free comic book day stuff in bags. This meant you get 8 comics but they’re random. I’m curious to check them out. I got a few Star Wars figures in the sale, as well as a book and Pokémon funko (sobble my boy!) and some grab bags(nothing too special, though I got the amory wars at last). However the fav thing I got was the comic for the Phantom Menace, cause I got a special variant cover of Queen Amidala! I didn’t even though there was one and it was the last one so I’m very happy.

We got a few other things, then had something to eat then went to see Episode I in the cinema.

They’ve bought out Episode I again(with a beautiful poster) because it’s an anniversary year for it. 25 years. Fuck, that made me feel old when I first heard that. But it was awesome to see Star Wars on the big screen again, even though it’s one I’ve seen many times now.

The Phantom Menace is so beautiful, especially Naboo which is one of my fav planets and I love all of the outfits for Queen Amidala (and her ship! Naboo ships are the best). Plus darth maul and the duel is awesome and it largely holds up and resonates so well now (even if the trade federation’s motives are iffy).

Though one thing I love is that it gives me a strong memory. I don’t have too many memories of my grandparents that have stuck, in large part because of how they went towards the end, but one of the strongest memories of my grandad is when we first saw Episode I. He called Padme a ‘stupid woman’ cause she watched the holo of governor Bibble (enpven though it was a recording) and he said it so loud in a crowded cinema it was embarrassing. And yet that’s a memory that’s stuck somehow, and that’s nice.

I sense I’ll be doing a run of the other films soon. (Though it did make me wanna go back on Lego Star Wars)

There was also a preview for The Acolyte after the film, which some of a scene with one of the new Jedi (played by Carrie Ann Moss) which was awesome and I’m so excited for it! I read an article on it on the train and there was a new trailer when I got home and ahhh I’m so hyped.

After going in a few other places we came back home and I pretty much immediately flopped (after snuggling the girls). I watched MCC though my focus wasn’t 100% there and I zoned out after it. Though Seapeekay did have an awesome Jedi outfit which ahhh!

Today hasn’t been too exciting. I made the belated birthday cake for mum (which was nice), I watched the first three eps of Tales Of The Empire (interesting though raised more questions than answered them) and Dungeons And Dodongos (which was so funny and I’m sure James is somehow psychic) and then I did some Lego Star Wars.

Now I’m gonna watch Red Eye (which has been interesting so far) then I wanna finish Lego Star Wars Episode I on FreePlay (and then I dunno, I may fic, I may watch something it depends if I get tired)

I really like the photos you posted on Insta.

I'm glad you had what sounds like a great day.

I'd completely forgotten about Star Wars Day so a belated May the Fourth Be With You!

Sounds like your trip to Birmingham was quite productive. Pity about the lack of Lego though. The DW Magazine special sounds very interesting.

Surely it can't be twenty-five years since the first prequel were shown?!! That means it's not that many years until it will be FIFTY since the whole saga started. I'm even older than I thought I was, eeep!

Sounds like you had a good day, including getting pics of/with a Jawa, not something you can do every day!
I'm enjoying "Red Eye" more than I expected to :)
