Snowflake Challenge 2024 Day 7 and 8

I’ve gotten a bit behind on snowflake, and it’s still been a bit too dark to do day 5’s pic post, but he’s a few more answers bunched together. (Especially since I feel they’d be too short to justify their own post)

Challenge #7

Make a list of fannish and/or creative resources. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

One of the most useful things I find for fandom stuff is wikis. Of course the main ones are Wookieepedia (for Star Wars), Doctor Who wiki and Memory Alpha (for Star Trek). They’re always useful and I find myself using them often, especially when I’m watching Who or reading Star Wars books (and forget if a species or droid had been shown before).

Yesterday I was on the Cult Of The Lamb cause of the new update, cause I wanted to see what the dlc follower forms were like (and I found I missed some special ones). If you’ve not played the game I definitely recommend it, it’s so fun and the art is so pretty and the music. I’ve watched people play it lately and it’s so funny how wild they are.

There’s also the Qsmp wiki which I used pretty recently cause it has all the details and info on everyone on it and it can be hard to keep track of as I dip in and out.

And there’s also youtubia which has some info on streamers and YouTubers, but not as much as I’d like.

There’s also tv tropes which is fun to go on. Be warned though it’s very easy to lose yourself to it.

I’m sure I’m missing something super super obvious.

Challenge #8

Talk about a current fannish project (fic, art, vid, crochet, funko pop village) (that you are creating or enjoying)

Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

In October I started to do kinktober and I honestly didn’t expect to do much to it, since I’d been in a writing slump, but I ended up doing over a third of them in October. Alas I’ve yet to start uploading them to ao3 (which I need to do!) but I wanna keep working on them.

I’ve also recently made a document which is all the wips and ideas I have as I’d got into a bit of a slump again (mental health issues+uni nonsense) but I’m hoping to get through them all, even though I keep adding ideas to it (hopefully recently finishing something will help spark something).

One of the main ones I really need to get back to is a Pirate AU I started, when Seapeekay and Eret got announced for the Pirates SMP (which has since ended alas) and I’m just, really passionate about finishing it because the idea is so, but I stalled and got blocked. (Same with a few longer kinktobers and other things on the list)

I do wanna try and get back to making art, I’m not the best and it’s largely simple things, but… maybe I will.

Another fandom thing I do is post thoughts on Doctor Who as I watch it. Whenever there’s a new Blu ray collection release I try and watch an ep a week and post about my thoughts on the eps. It’s fun to do, because I’d watched most of the classic Who eps before, but a long time ago so I don’t remember some of them too well. (The nature of the dvd releases meant they were released in a random order so it was hard to watch them in context.)

Not necessarily fannish (though might coundpt so I’m including it), is I like building lego. I got some sets over Christmas, the spider tank from The Mandalorian and the E-Wing vs Shin’s starfighter from Ahsoka and they were fun to build. I also got a set today, the smaller Bond Austin Martin car cause it was on sale and two marvel blind box figures (Storm and Beast). I’m hoping to get the new set with Shadow Friday if Game has it, and I’m super looking forward to the Animal a crossing sets later in the year.

***

There will likely be a more general post sometime tomorrow, before the gig on Friday (which ahh! /pos but also ahhh! /neg cause cold and rail replacement and lack of films showing).

Beginning of January time maybe doesn't help matters, I got into a slump myself right after Christmas. Good luck with the rest of the kinktober stuff!

Oh yes, TV Tropes is fun and also a huge timesuck :D

I hope you get the fics uploaded soon!
A document to keep track is so useful :) I have a massive spreadsheet with all sorts of random ideas for fic, orig fic, fanvids, and more. It's fun when I can move one to the completed tab because I've actually finished it :)

Anything you're fannish about or creative with is great so yay for at - we're all amateurs in so many things and I think if you make and post things you can look back and see your progress later - and Lego. My older nephew in particular is very into Star Wars Lego at present and I helped with a big build - maybe an X wing? or destroyer? - mostly by sorting all the pieces by colour and shape while he did the more complicated building parts, because some of those instructions are easier to follow than others.
So kudos for all your builds, some of them are very complex and time consuming but always look amazing when they're complete :)

It may not help but a lot of people used images from the web for the scavenger hunt.

TV tropes is an excellent place, but such a time suck it can be dangerous going there.

And you've done so well with kinktober. It just shows it's much easier to write when you're enthusiastic about the source material.

That YouTube wiki is handy, I used it for Callum, Owen and Blau when I wrote them 🤣🤣🤣

Blau was particularly surprising to me, but I suppose you can blame Atreyu for that!

As someone who reads a lots of crossovers and fusions I find fandom wikis VERY useful! And as you say, they're excellent when you need to refresh your memory about the tiny details of even your best-loved fandoms. Like the Doctor Who wiki that I've used it so much over the years. (I just checked and it's fourteen years since I bookmarked it. I knew it was a long time ago but I hadn't realised HOW long :-)

All the good luck with your story writing!! *waves encouraging pompoms*
