The sky’s awake

Yesterday ended up being super tiring.

I had a super restless sleep. I went to bed at a normalish time for me, but was awake just after 3 and then I just… couldn’t settle. I was awake and asleep all night. I’m not sure if it’s because of the heat or something else but… yeah. It was annoying.

I dunno if it’s cause of that but I felt woozy in the morning, to the point where I almost didn’t go, but I ended up going. As soon as I was on the bus the wooziness seemed to go away. Which was good.

Speaking of the bus it was slightly annoying cause mums bus pass doesn’t work until 9:30 (and the bus was 8:53) so we had to get two day savers. If I’d known before leaving the house I’d have suggested we go Monday instead but…

When we got to town we had a little wander by the cinema. I had hoped going to town would’ve meant mum could get the dress she saw when we last went (but didn’t get causa it being the first shop) but alas her size wasn’t there this time which was a shame. I got a pasta bowl though, which was nice cause it had sea life on.

Jurassic World Dominion spoilers are under the cut, I assume everyone that wants to see it has but just in case.

First off there were so many ads beforehand! There were two showings we were aiming for, 10 and 10:30 and we got there just as it hit 10. There had to have been close to 15 minutes of ads if not more. The trailers were better, mostly causa the Thor one, though it’s still odd to me that we’re getting an Avatar film.

Anyway, onto the film itself. I’d heard mixed reviews of Jurassic World Dominion, so I was a little apprehensive. It actually turned out to be better than I expected, though there were some… odd choices.

Let’s start with the odd ones. The film opens with a short video, showing dinosaurs out in the world. I think this is an interesting concept but sadly it’s not really touched on. There’s a few scenes of dinos in the wild, but most of them are in the sanctuary that has been made for them. (Speaking of the sanctuary why was it somewhere fairly cold? Wouldn’t it have been better being somewhere warmer?)

Secondly what’s the main threat of the film? Locusts. Which, for a series about dinosaurs it’s a really odd choice to suddenly have insects be the main threat. Not to the mention that the reason they exist is…. Old Bond villain level insane.

Other than that the film basically follows two strands. The first is the locusts, which kicks off the legacy characters return. It’s great to see Alan, Ellie and Malcolm return (especially after the latter being an advertised extra in the last one) and they all work so well. Though there could have been more of Malcolm. (Or course this plot line does have a flaw to it, why didn’t Malcolm and Ramsey steal the locust dna themselves?)

The second half is Claire and Owen, is them trying to track down Beta (blue’s child) and Maisie (the random clone girl from the last film). While the former plot line ends up being fairly straightforward the latter ends up being slightly less so, including a whole bit in Malta that could’ve been in a spy film or something like that. But somehow it works.

The two threads end up coming together towards the end and everyone does work well together.

I really liked the two new characters, Ramsey (played by the guy from Archive) and Kayla, who is this badass pilot. I’m glad both survived. Other returning characters were cameos, as well as the main villain Dodgson (returning from way back in the first film, albeit played by a different actor this time round which is a good thing). He’s less effective he seems a bit… bumbling and there doesn’t seem to be a real reason why he thought the locust thing was a good idea. Still at least he died like he deserved.

I’m sure I had other thoughts, but those are the basic thoughts.

After that we went back to Smyths and I picked up a fall guy bean (I’m glad cause I can’t seem to find it online and it was half off, but it’s not quite as snuggly as I hoped) and we went in a few places. (And it was funny I got id’s in Poundland of all places, I dunno the last time I was.) Alas Smiths didn’t have the new Who magazine special, despite it coming out last week. Boo.

By the time I came back I felt really tired, but I couldn’t settle for a nap for ages. I gamed a bit but mostly just fortnite. (new quests went live and I’m surprised some auto unlocked)

I had considered starting The Umbrella Academy but I didn’t feel up to watching it. I’ve been trying my best to avoid spoilers for it but I have managed to see two. One, if true, I’m really excited about seeing. The second, I’ve not seen details of but I’m worried it may end up being triggering.

The Taskmaster Champion of champions ep was last night and I enjoyed it. It’s a shame was only a one off unlike the first one which was two eps. I’d have loved to see more of these guys dynamic, plus a team task, but alas. Liza also really rocked her surprise beard. At the end there was also a the reveal of the next series contestants. Three of them I’m not immediately familiar with (when it comes around I might recognise them, especially when they speak) but the other two are Dara O’Brian and Sarah Millican who I’m sure will be really fun to watch.

There was a DreamSMP stream at vid con last night. I’m glad that it was streamed but I also wish it had been a little longer, it was just on for an hour and the first 20 minutes we’re getting everyone onstage. Still it was good to see everyone all together, including some extra surprise additions. (And it was funny there was so many some had to sit on the floor of the stage, the three tallest.) Jack did good as the presenter, especially since it was apparently a last minute decision. But yeah I wish it had been a bit longer (and there was only one odd question which was good, and boo the answer). I dunno how they handled being in front of so many (pictures posted later showed how big the crowd was and I’d have froze completely).

I was too tired to do anything after that so headed up to bed. At least last nights sleep was better, though still a bit iffy. It seems a bit cloudy today so maybe that rumoured storm will hit us soon. I guess we’ll see. Hopefully it won’t hit while I’m walking back if it does come.

I hope the storm held off until you got home and that it's now cleared the air a bit!
