Hope is like the sun
The past few days have, again, been rough. Although that’s mostly due to the world going to hell and yeah, I’m gonna mention some parts of the world being sucky very briefly at the start of this post so feel free to just scroll.
First off there was Florida being all shitty with the ‘don’t say gay’ bill which, of course, is designed to target trans kids. It’s absolutely absurd how people are trying to screw over trans people and kids and trying to stifle education on it (and, as always targeting trans people is just the start. Texas’s governed is also trying to pull a similar stunt, though that’s even worse (and I’m not even sure if there’s anything backing it up).
Unfortunately I have a tendency to go on news tweets about such things but the sole purpose of blocking/reporting transphobic comments, but fuck is it exhausting and downheartening.
And then, of course, Russia decided to invade Ukraine. I get the sense that they thought it was going to be a pushover and to an extent it certainly looked that way during the doomscrolling I did (which yeah, it’s an unfortunate thing that I tend to do and I’d advise against it) but honestly? Ukraine are putting up a serious brave fight and people are backing them for it (yeah in some cases slower than would be useful but still). The prime minister is definitely an example of an actual leader, which is actually rare to see.
I hope for an end to the conflict soon and that this will spell an end to Putin’s leadership… but who the fuck knows these days? Humans have proven time and again that they can be absolutely shitty to one another.
Even so there has been examples of kindness and hope, Ukrainians fighting back, Russian civilians staging mass protests and various organisations organising things to try and help.
Of the last one a bunch of game developers are stepping up, either making direct donations of donating profits from games to the Ukrainian Red Cross. A list of these can be found here. Of the games I can definitely recommend the Turing test, as well as Steamworld heist. So please, consider getting one of these games, or sharing the list to anyone that might be interested.
Anyway, onto less grim things.
As it is did an interview/performance thing on Amazon music Thursday which I enjoyed. They didn’t make an appearance until half way through (about an hour in) and the presenter is kinda… annoying? But that might just be me. The boys were very sweet and I think In Threes was the best of the performances (they got both Cody and Jordan in which was unexpected!)
Because of how grim things were I decided to start a game called Alba A Wildlife Adventure, which is a sweet, bright game all about helping animals. It isn’t terribly long, but I enjoyed it and think it’s definitely something I needed. So if you like animals and nature I’d definitely say pick it up. (Alas some parts were in small text which was hard to read, I really need to chase up an eye test for new glasses.) There was also a sweet touch of a pride flag hanging on one of the buildings (the new one which included the trans colours too, does it have a name?) which I thought was sweet.
Wilbur’s decided to do a stream on Saturday night… which ended up being a major discomfort stream. Who’d have expected a stream about Tetris to go in all the directions it did? I certainly didn’t.
There was also the ‘final’ manhunt premier which was pretty entertaining. It’s actually impressive some of the things they end up doing and I’m curious what an irl one will be. But speaking of the irl manhunt I saw so many people say that Badboyhalo would be a badass at it and was… so surprised. At first I thought it was some sort of meme that was lost on me because, while Bad is funny and smart, being tough isn’t something is have associated with him.
Until yesterday when I found out that he shoots competitively, has throwing knows and (apparently) can use a bow and a katana as well. Which… yeah I’m completely blindsided by that all and my view of him is forever changed.
(Of course there’s still the thing where he seems allergic to actually meeting people but…)
Yesterday was Pokemon day and my expectations weren’t terribly high. There was a presentation at 2pm and, for the most part, it seemed to be just things announced over the course of the week. There was also an announcement that the shaymin event would show up in diamond and pearl and there’d be an update for Pokémon legends (which I really need to finish).
And then there was one last video to end the presentation,m which turned out to be a reveal of new Pokémon games! Scarlet and Violet are gonna come out later this year and they look so pretty! They also showed off the new starters which look so cute! I’m torn between Sprigatito the grass cat and Quaxly the water duck (which looks so like Quackity it’s strange).
For Pokémon day I also ended up going on Pokémon shield to get the wild area charizard, venusaur and blastoise from the Pokémon day event. I already had them all but figured I should anyway. I ended up getting them all, but not only that I also ended up getting the Galarian legendary birds which was unexpected. I’ll do some more of the crown tundra dlc before game switching.
I ended up watching a gameblast charity stream, but my focus wasn’t really there as much as it usually is, which is a shame but… ah well.
This week I should actually be able to finish my uni assessment in good time (I’m actually ahead in my reading for once) and going to pick up meds and such Wednesday shouldn’t impact it much. (Mum also suggested going to the cinema Saturday to avoid some tree cutting, but we’ll see what’s on and if the weather holds).
Next week is when the Funeral For A Friend gig in Birmingham is and I’m still not sure about going so I probably won’t (they posted a pic of them rehearsing so I’m sure it won’t be delayed). Although Nat did mention that maybe Kill The Lights pushed the gigs back so they could join the tour which… would change things. I’m not sure though, surely they would have said if that was true? But I think the first tour date is tonight so we’ll see.
I guess this turned out to be rambly, oops. I hope to get back to posting more and reading my friends list at some point soon (and get back to song Saturdays cause I’ve been so faily) but we’ll see.

Ugh that really sucks. I hate that the covid restrictions here have been ‘relaxed’ too, but the worst one is that here the legal requirement to self isolate if you test positive has been removed because what the actual fuck
I hope so too, they seem to be doing so well with it so far and it makes me hate that we left them. I honestly don’t know how they were expecting it to go, but I don’t think they expected it to go this badly for them and the world to react like this. The people there too deserve better leadership then what they have (even moreso than Texas)
Oh nice! I’ve not watched series one in awhile but I really should because it has such moments. I dunno if it’s true or not, but I heard that the use of Toxic and Tainted love on the ‘I-pod’ in End Of The World took a big chunk of money out of the budget.

Yeah, it's a mess. And I just got a decent N95 mask, too. Ugh.
I heard that too about getting the rights to those songs! I don't know if it's true or just a rumor, but it sounds plausible enough that I believe it.
Oh, speaking of things: If you haven't seen Last Night In Soho yet, you definitely should. 1960s aesthetic, really clever editing, Matt Smith as a villain, great music, time travel, ghosts--it's a GOOD time.
