Snowflake Challenge 2024 - day 6
Challenge #6
In your own space, share a favourite piece of original canon (a show, a specific TV episode, a storyline, a book or series, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.
So I’m gonna do day 5’s challenge another time (when it’s less cold and dark and so easier to take pics) so this is gonna be out of order. But! I wanna do this cause I have two things.
The first is definitely a case of recency bias, because it is from a thing that got posted almost 8 hours ago but has been making me flail internally ever since.
It’s this.
Now this is a trailer for the next Doctor Who collection blu ray boxset. They’ve been making these season boxsets for a few years now (at roughly three a year) and they are always awesome, with fun special features. (Seriously if you like Doctor Who these are awesome things to get because they’re so hilarious) so a new one coming out is always a good thing and they now make special little scenes for them with the actors playing their characters.
For this one the scene is with Leela, the companion for season 15. She’s not been on screen since this season was on tv (which is such a shame cause they went back to Gallifrey after this season and she so should’ve been there) and it ends with her staying on Gallifrey. Since then she’s appeared in various audios set on the planet (alas I’ve not heard them) and, with Gallifrey being destroyed in the time war it seemed unlikely she’d ever be back (which is a shame cause she’s one of my fav companions)
Then this scene came and it’s her on Gallifrey in the last moments of the time war (and she looks fantastic in her robes) and the Doctor sends someone to give her a thing to get her off Gallifrey before it’s destroyed. So she lives! And she’s out there and that she makes me so happy! Plus she gets a badass moment against daleks, something she never got to do on screen sadly)

(I was just gonna link the pic but I don’t care she looks too awesome)
I dunno I’m just flailing cause she’s awesome! I know the trailer scenes can be dubious canon at times but I choose to believe this one is and that she’s out there somewhere being awesome and that we get to see her again.
There’s another Star Wars one, from the book Bloodlines which I might have mentioned before but I’m putting it under a cut cause it’s spoilery for the book.
Star Wars Bloodline is a book that I was excited about when I heard about it, because it’s a book about Leia. Leia is my fav of the original three main characters so I’m always excited to see her again. (And yeah, I cried when Carrie died and I got teary during The Last Jedi)
Anyway! In the book there is a character called Lady Carise Sindian and all she cares about is titles. So much so that she goes after the role of becoming a governor of a planet solely because of a title (it was offered to Leia but she wasn’t interested). However when she arrives there she finds that there was a holo message for Leia left by her adoptive father. Instead of doing the right thing (handing it over to her) she instead watches it. And it’s a message telling Leia about her parentage, that Vader is her father. Again she could’ve done the right thing and handed it to her, but she uses it to ruin Leia’s reputation, getting it played in front of the whole senate.
One of the last scenes of the book is Leia confronting her. Leia tells her she doesn’t have much after what she did but she is still Princess of Alderaan and that gave her enough pull to revoke her governorship and all her titles permanently. I can’t remember the exact quote and don’t have the book to hand (my cat, Midna, is curled on my lap and doesn’t wanna move) so I will instead leave this from wookieepedia
Leia delivered the news to Sindian personally, noting that she viewed it as a small punishment for betraying both her and Ransolm, but acknowledged (with satisfaction) that it was one that would hurt Sindian, who viewed nobility as sacred, to her very core.
I dunno why it’s stuck with me but it’s just such a badass moment that’s stuck in my head long after reading the book.
Anyway! There’s two rambles, I could probably do more if I thought more on it but that’s what I’m gonna go with.
