It’s only 365 days until next Halloween

So I’ve not made a proper post in a few days, so here it is.

On Wednesday, after making the last post, we had a call from my uncle. (Who has never bothered checking in on us during everything and has genuninely been useless as always.) what did he want? Not to see if we were ok or needed anything, but to use our freezer because he was doing his own out.

Now when we do it with ours (which mum did Friday) we just put our stuff in a basket with a coat on and do it quickly. In fact when we did it it took less than an hour. So why he wanted to pack the stuff in his car, drive it here and then keep it in our freezer is just... (and he didn’t even come back for it till late Thursday). The whole thing baffles me,

Other than that nothing too exciting happened. I did end up watching The Crow on Friday, since a few people were, so I’ll add thoughts on that at the end.

I hope everyone had a good Halloween. I putting on the latest Magnus Archives in the morning, so I’m all caught up, and then watching Nightmare Before a Christmas before working the pup. When I got back I sorted the pumpkin and had soup which was nice.

I also did Animal Crossing Halloween, which was cute. The spooky carriage is so massive though. I need to sort a proper place for it.

Well, we’re entering another lockdown on Thursday. I didn’t catch the announcement (although i know it was delayed a few times which says a lot). Although it’s meant to be another four week lockdown,.. schools and unis are still being kept open (despite the latter being a know hotspot). What the hell is wrong with them? Universal basic income is gaining more support, so I hope that comes through because this is all a mess. Ugh.

The main thing I did on Halloween, though, was Shudderfest. It’s an event that got announced last week (by the Shudder app) and it was a series of pre recorded panels. (There was some technical issues but otherwise it went smoothly). The horror royalty one that opened it was pretty good though could have easily been longer (and Lin Shaye is adorable and I wanted more of her). I also enjoyed the Host and Mortuary Collection panels (I hope the lattter gets a sequel!) and the vampire one was funny, even though I missed the start.

It ended with a film premier which I’ll get too later. Trick R Treat didn’t arrive so I didn’t watch it, but that was ok in the end. It should be here tomorrow.

Ok film thoughts under the cut now,

So first is The Crow, which like I mentioned I watched Friday. It’s only the second time I’ve seen it and like I mentioned, it was because some people were watching it for Devil’s Night. After watching Cursed Films earlier in the year and knowing what happened, it makes the whole thing so sad. It’s a shame what happened to Brandon and it’s.... really something that shouldn’t have happened.

But I digress.

The villains are mostly hot even though they are so deserving for happens to them. And Eric’s whole outfit is just so... Unf. And kitty! But yeah it was better than I remember it being when I first watched. I dunno if it’s because of the added context that I didn’t know first time or what.

So after Shudderfest the shudder tv was doing a double bill, Halloween and a mystery film. Only Halloween was only for the US. We got HellHouse LLC. (But before I get to that one quick thing, I really wish that the shudder app had some sort of TV guide so you knew what started when. But alas no)

Hell House LLC is a found footage film, looking into what happened in the titular Hell House. Because it was shot as a documentary it gave me slight Noroi vibes especially towards the start, but mostly it followed the group that was setting up the Hell House from their recordings.

And honestly, these people are too dumb to live. They stay in an abandoned hotel while setting it up as the Hell House and... so many creepy things happen beforehand. Now most found footage stuff (Blair Witch or Grave Encounters) are set over a short period of time and, when the weird stuff happens, it’s often too late to do anything. These people had AMPLE warningto get the hell out of there but they just... keep going. They don’t even get rid of one of the main props that keeps moving (a creepy as hell clown). And just... ugh.

There’s two sequels and, while this one was pretty good (idiocy notwithstanding) I’m not sure if I’d watch them. We’ll see.

After that there was a premier of a mystery film, that’s due to come to shudder in general next year. I was looking forward to it, expecting it to be something that would be a good film but...

The film was called Lucky (although it’s title wasn’t revealed until the end) and it was... well. The basic premise was that a woman (called May) keeps having a guy break Into her house. The first time it happens the boyfriend isn’t surprised (indeed acting like it’s happens before) but then he just... goes. The guy comes back every night for several days (and then even in daylight after that). The trouble is every time she knocks the guy out (or stabs him) he vanishes, so no one really believes her.

The dialogue in places seems odd (like the boyfriend acting like the guy had come before) and it seemed to give the sense that something is wrong here. But by the end, nothing is really resolved or explained and it just feels so unsatisfying. It felt like towards the end it became a feminist thing, about how you couldn’t trust men and such, but it was just felt forced,

So yeah that was disappointing really.

All in all spooky seasons has been good for watching stuff, though mostly on streaming stuff. (I barely touched the dvd/blu ray lists). I’m gonna extend it a bit because time has no meaning (and Maxx isn’t doing streams for awhile so that should help).

I’m gonna be hopefully watching some online gigs this month, Madina Lake and Set It Off (which just got announced the other day). And I wanna read Leaser Known Monsters which came out yesterday.
