Catch em all

So this week marks the 25th anniversary of when Pokemon first got released in Japan. And yeah, I admit, it makes me feel old but whatever. It seemed like the perfect thing to use for a love meme post.

So I got into Pokemon when it first started to be a thing here which means I got into it during Gen I and the first season of the anime. The anime I watched every week as part of a show called SM:TV. It was a morning kids show presented by Ant and Dec (along with Cat Deeley) and it was such a fun thing. For Pokemon they would always do these ‘Pokemon battles’ where one of them was dressed as Gary and the other as Misty. Guests ended up being used during the battles (mostly bands) and it was just... so funny.

I remember getting both Pokemon red and blue for Christmas and I’m not sure which one I started first. WhT I do know is that my first starter was Bulbasaur (and second was Squirtle) and that’s a love I’ve continued to have. I got yellow on release too as well as silver, though I didn’t get crystal. Unfortunately I didn’t see much of the anime for those games, because I think they got nabbed to a channel I couldn’t watch which was sad.

I watched the first three films at the cinema, dragging along my grandad since there wasn’t a local one at the time and I needed a ride. (I only tried to that cinema once alone, years later, but got lost and missed what I was going to see which was Resident Evil Apocalypse [I eventually saw it there, but alone])

I did have some of the TCG cards, and got the game boy game, but I never got into it too much. I guess that’s a good thing cause there is a lot of cards for it.

I got every mainly game after that, but usually just one of the pair and if there was a third I got that as well. In recent years I’ve had some of the build a bear Pokemon (although I only got Bulbasaur direct from them) as well as one of the funko (again bulbasaur) and some other random things.

Although 8 haven’t seen films in the cinema due to limited releases, I did see Detective Pikachu and I love it. I really hope they do another live action Pokemon film because the graphics where amazing.

Of the current app games I don’t go on Pokemon go too much, mostly cause it’s tied to my pad and not a phone so I can’t do too much, but I love Pokemon masters ex as well as cafe mix on the switch.

Nintendo today did a Pokemon presents stream, although it was 20 instead of 25 minutes which is a bit of a missed opportunity I think. The opening was a look back at the series over the years, which felt longer than it probably was.

Other than the time limit there wasn’t any info about what the presentation was about. I suspected, though, that there’d be something about the game we knew was coming and indeed that came first. Pokemon snap was a game for the 64 where instead of catching Pokémon you took pictures of them. Although it was popular there was never a sequel, until one got announced for the switch awhile ago. So there was new info and a new trailer for it and it looks so pretty! You can go underwater! And there’s a venusaur!

The stream then mentioned events for the apps, which had already been publicised so they kept that brief but then they shown a new trailer! They’re remastering Diamond and Pearl, which people have been clamouring for so much it’s been a bit annoying. It looks cute though and I’m wondering exactly when late 2021 is.

And then! They announced another! Pokemon Legends Arceus, which is set in the same region as Diamond and Pearl but in the distant past. It was a surprise because it appears to be open world, similar to the wild areas of the last games and breath of the wild. It looks pretty too and it’s coming out next year. Also the starter Pokemon are unusual. Usually there’s a set of three from each region that you get at the start of the game, but this one has three from very different regions. I suspect I’ll start with Rowlett, the cute lil owl.

But yeah, I’m excite for this new stuff.

I’m gonna snuggle now, maybe watch something but I dunno.
